Always great to see an Eastern Kentucky team playing for the Title. I pull for the Devils in all their games but one. Coach McGlone is one of the best if not the best in the State. Theres no tricks just a dare for the opposing team to try to stop him. I think Mercer County is the better team, does that mean they will win, No. Russell will have to play their best game, Defense will have to be flawless. And when the offense has opportunities to score its a must. I hope its an injury, and conflict free game. Good luck to both teams, but hopefully the Devils bring it home.

That would be an eye popping final score. If Russell is to win it will have to be like 35-28. They wont hold Mercer to less then 4 Td's. But, 19 points is the most Mercer has given up in a game all year.

First of all I would like to appoligize for my remarks on here. It's not me. I've been a member for several years and have never really been this upset over a subject. Truely, it has nothing to do with the merger. Look at my posts from when Mercer took over the number one ranking. I always said they earned it and get off there backs. What angers me are some of the in your face comments made by arrogant posters. I'm well aware that these kids had nothing to do with this merger, and I wish each member of the Mercer football team good luck on Friday. Come Saturday win or loose I will be back here congratulating the players of the winning team. Yes I want the Devils to win. No one expected them to shut out Belfry. No one! Not even the players. They played great football. If they play with the same intensity and leave it all on the field, win or loose they are Champions in my minds of all Red Devil fans.

 

One thing is for sure, The best team will win, no excusses, no cry babies, and no what if's. Everyone be safe and see you at the stadium.

Everyone assumes Devils have to play at some very high level to beat Mercer. If Devils play solid football and Mercer does the same , Devils win , for most the intangibles are in favor of Russell ....

 

I am hoping someone can help me with specifics of why Mercer can or will dominate the Devils ... I don't see it .. I was at the game last year , injecting talent from Harrodsburg makes us even at best.

Never said Boyle was an elite program with great history.

(BTW, for the record Boyle has had its ups and downs but they haven't been without some success. They have a good history, better than most realize, but not elite by any stretch over time.)

 

You took two posts I made and combined them.

 

The one you quoted referred to a coaching discussion. I placed Chuck Smith in the fold because statewide he is recognized for doing more than any coach in building an elite program for his tenure.

 

The one you inferred was from another post about elite programs historically. I never mentioned Boyle in that post. Please try to get the right thoughts together when you respond.

As for elite AA programs it's hard to say since that class more than any has had the greatest flux of up and down with members going up and going down. Historically speaking Danville, Mayfield, Corbin, Breathitt, and even Bardstown have more impressive histories in AA competition.

 

If we go only with the teams left in AA that are there today you have to see what they have done since they have been in AA.

 

We could go to AAA and talk about Hoptown, Highlands, CovCath and others who have produced more titles. (Even Boyle has 3 titles in AAA)

 

(My reference to Boyle was not an elite team just that they had 3 AAA titles.)

 

I still stand by the post in that those mentioned (with the possible exception of Breathitt) have a longer history of success on a state level than Russell can possible be considered with.

 

Just my take based on the facts and not region. :thumb:

 

For Russell:

 

2 State titles (1AAA and 1AA)

 

10 Region titles (6AAA and 4AA)

 

17 District titles (7AAA and 10AA)

 

513 wins all time.

 

These numbers will stack up against any of the programs you mentioned with the exception of Highland, Danville and maybe Mayfield.

 

There are only a handfull of schools that can match those numbers. That is state wide NOT regional.

It will be a good game between MERCER County vs. Russell. The MERCER school system is sure to bring plenty of busses and fans. As for friction, maybe here on the BGP Boards between a few posts, kids and parents have been having a good ole time. The football players from MERGER County as you like to call it have set an example for the entire community to follow. I am very proud of the accomplishments they have made on and off the field. I think the MERGER has made them a stronger team it is a very special and talented group of players. The coaching staff is awesome! 14-0, and all we need is one more game. Coach Jaggers was quoted on his radio show as saying in the movie Remember the Titans, the team was perfect at 13-0, the Titans have an opportunity to be perfect + 2. That would be unbelievable for this community. Go Titans, we will be there to support you, good luck to Russell - see you on Friday morning.

Well of course the Merger team is better this season they have more athletes to choose from. I thought they were pretty good last year. Russell did man handle them in round 2 of the playoffs, but adding a whole new school system obviously helps out the team. No offense but the Titans is a little cheesy IMO! Nevertheless hopefully the Devils spoil THE DREAM season of the GIANTS(literally) of 2A! Go Devils Go! Bring it back to Flatwoods Again!

Mercer Co. is awesome! They have good size-- they have better than good speed-- almost two deep at every position. Unstoppable on offense -- Immovable on defense . They not only have a 12th man, they have a 13th man - two schools of fans that just overwhelm stadiums around the state. They have never even been challenged once this year. Thus, leading me to their possible flaw, the unchartered waters of a miraculous 14-0 season. So what will happen if coach McGlone's maroon platoon does put the the clamps on the titans offense. Will they respond, will they know how to respond. I got the chance to see that Russell defense that I thought was overrated because of mediocre opponents. Friday at Belfry. I thought it was kinda' funny, thier announcer kept saying, "show them your angry red". And the RED devils kept showing him, and kept showing him, I was thinking, dude you need to quit saying that. Russell is for real on defense.... And they usually seem to find a way to score. Mercer county is awesome. But Russell is for real also. The first PINK ELEPHANT that arrives --------- LOSES. I have to lean toward the Devils. Only because of that "fetish" they seem to have with green carpet.

How big is Mercer Co. across the front lines? What are the times that these backs run? Did they run track last year? I would like to see some real recorded times, not someone just saying, they run a 4.2. I think after watching last weeks Belfry/Russell game, if the Devils can control the line with size and power, I think they have a very good chance to beat a great team.

I would love to see the Devils pull this one off but I just think Mercer is way to deep for Russell. I think that Russell will be able to put some points on the board but Im not sure if they can stop that backfield from M.C.. I like Mercer pulling away in the fourth.
