Hey how come you Mercer folks did not tell us about your Marching band winning the Class AA state championship. Congratulations. Are they going to be at the game? My wife loves marching bands.

Im just excited to watch this game, win or lose I think it will be a great game, noone has ever answered me on the size of Mercer's line, or the actual timed speed of their back. Did any of them run track last spring? I have heard all about how they have the fastest backs in the state, so I'm sure they are State Champion track stars, or atleast in the final heat.

I was glad to see Mercer's Band do so well. I was even more happy when my son's band, Bassett from Virginia, finished higher in score at Grand Nationals in Indy. It gives me fuel for discussion when I go home for Xmas.

 

Now back to our usual mayhem in this thread.

I don't really want to dig it out but I think it was in the OCath v Mercer thread that Titan might have posted the 100m times for three of the backs. These were done at the state meet last year if I recall.

 

From all indications Mercer's line is not huge but is pretty good and quick for linemen. I have heard even greater things about Russell's line and I think that will be the biggest key to the game. If Mercer's line can somehow make headway on both sides of the ball they have a chance. If Russell's line controls things like they did against Belfry it will be a long day for the Titans.

Ok i am going to make my prediction later in the week,i just watched the last 3 Mecer County playoff games on tape,they are very impresive,they are not real big,or physical,but are very quick,both lines are quick off the ball,the kicking game,on kick off's i don.t know what they were trying to do seems they was trying to use their quikness to get the ball back?something else concerns me they seem to cough the ball up alot,their was some hard tackles on their backs,but no hits i was at two of Russells games did not see the Belfry game i will look at it tmorrow and then i will make my predict.

I read from another post a long time ago in the pre season that at the Centre Combine #2 Cory Jackson ran a 4.31 Donald Walker #32 ran a 4.32(he should return this week from injury) and Brandon Ford #13 ran a 4.33 that was with a hand time though, and the wind played a factor. But still that is extremely fast!!!

I believe you are correct. Last year, I know that we were the home team, so I think that this year would be the visitor, but I looked up some on KHSAA and did not see anything specifically saying that, so it could be a coin toss. I'm still looking into it

I just looked over the state official instructions given to the Refs. It stated that this year the visiting teams will be from the top half of the bracket. You can read this at http://www.khsaa.org/football/stateofficialsinstructions.pdf

I haven't seen Russell this year, but I have seen Mercer. As a Danville fan, I have witnessed a lot of speed in my day and this Mercer team is VERY quick. For Russell to win, I feel their D will have to contain Mercer's speed by denying their ability to get around the ends (duh:D right?) If you let Mercer break that first tackle........................good bye. Mercer offers a very strong defense to complement their high powered offense.
