I just looked over the state official instructions given to the Refs. It stated that this year the visiting teams will be from the top half of the bracket. You can read this at http://www.khsaa.org/football/stateofficialsinstructions.pdf

 

reddevil38 - I clicked on your link and what I read on Page 8 is different that what you said. It says the following:

 

Teams in the top bracket of tournament will be the home team and use the benches on the W. Side (Press Box)

Teams in the bottom bracket of tourny will be the visitor teama and use the benches on the E. Side (Far side)

 

Home team will wear dark jerseys - visitors - Light(White) Jerseys

 

I know last year, we sat on the East side (At least I thought we did), but wore our dark (home) jerseys, so I am kinda of confused on all this.

 

We are in the lower bracket, so we should have to wear white, but then we would end up on the same side as last year. (again, at least I think)

Well either I'm reading it wrong, or it contradicts itself, because on the bottom of page 4 and into 5 under coin toss, it says the top half will be the visiting team. Might be a typo. looks like they may have sent out last yr's paper and just changed the date and some details, possibly overlooked that.

Russell shutting out a very physical Belfry team or Mercer Co Shutting out OCath.

 

 

Considering Mercer was conservative in the second half I'd say that one was pretty impressive. Ocath was averaging 34 points a game. But, also shutting out Belfry is pretty impressive as well. I'd say both are pretty equal. It tells me that there will be some defense being played friday starting at 11:30 in the am.

Like I said earlier. If it wasn't for the Russell fans popping in here and stirring stuff up this thread wouldn't be near as interesting. There are very few if any OC fans even posting in this thread.

What gets me is the complete lack of respect that some fans show toward Russell. I think they've earned at least your respect and still none is shown, at all. I don't think I've read one post written by a Mercer faithful that has given any respect to Russell. Most of you say" If we were healthy last year, we would have....". Well, you didn't. It wasn't even close. I just feel like many Mercer fans have no respect for Russell's program, I think they've earned the respect of most of the state. Why is most of Mercer not showing any at all? Last week the Russell BGPers and Belfry BGPers talked on here all week with nothing but respect shown for both programs and there were no closed threads or even any warnings I can remember. Both Belfry and Russell have tons of respect for the other program because they've earned it on the field. From the start I have heard nothing but disrespect and arrogant comments on here towards this game. Show a little respect, I think Russell has earned that much.

The what ifs (like being healthy) is a part of football. 3 starters 2 that went both ways one of which had over 800 yards in 5 games as well as a starting safety that was a team leader having ACL tears did have an impact on that game, but that goes along with it. The two Mercer teams should not be compared they are difffent and this one stayed healthy along with having great talent to get them where they are this week.

Excellent post. You are right the two teams cannot be compared they are different. This year they are two teams playing under the Mercer name with an unfair advantage. What makes this thing ugley is some of the Mercer fans boasting about how great it is and how thier football team is invincible. This is what angers many.

Russell had atleast 1 very good senior leader out also.

1. Ditto for Mercer

2. Will punch the time clock Friday, and get on a bus to take care of business.

3. Grew depth with entire JV and Freshmen squad playing a quarter or more in 10 of 14 games this year.

4. Are still improving after 14 games. Every game is showing a more balanced and well rounded team. They are peaking at EXACTLY the right time.

5. Ditto for Mercer. 8 two way starters last year......NONE full time this year.

6. Uh yeah...we have a few athletes ourself.

 

As far as being there for the entire game.....Mercer figures we might as well since we had to pay for the bus and all....and they're giving us 4 hours, might as well use them all.

 

So yes...you are correct THIS WILL BE A GOOD ONE.

 

 

 

I just have one thing to say abouit your #3 ? Out of the 14 games that we have played this year are starts have been out withen the frist two miunts of the start of the three Qurater,exsepted the last two games.
