I felt like the night king needed to wreak havoc on Westeros to feel closure with that story line. I feel like they sold it short.

 

I wonder what Bran does from here on? If there wasn’t more to his story, it would have been easy for the night king to kill him before Arya got him.

Last night's episode was quite something... but I can't help but feel like these guys are just milking it at this point. The writing has been less than great in recent seasons and I don't think they've ever had a very good plan for how to end things. I'll be curious to see what they've come up with.

 

Episodes one and two could have been a single episode and last night's festival of set-pieces could have been 20 minutes shorter and not lost very much.

 

The stuff with the Night's King was fun and gave us some great action sequences, but I'm excited for the show to get back to what the show does best at this point: letting Cersei spew venom at anyone within range while everyone else scrambles to figure out how to make it stop.

 

I am with you. I am glad they didn't drag out the battle over another episode. Let's get to what we have all been invested in this whole time! Very curious how it plays out and more excited that the battle with the dead is in our rearview.

Hasn't the show also been about the Night King and the white walkers since the beginning? Every season talked about winter is coming leading up to this. So they had to at least build this all up to start this season, since the whole series was leading up to this battle.

 

I do think a few others probably should have died though. Imo no way Sam should have survived, since he was also out there in the battle. The dude can't fight and yet somehow he survived lol.

 

It will be interesting to see how this wrap it up though.

Is he the one that cutoff Ned Stark's head? I think I heard the actor had some type of pretty serious cancer but he actually recently beat it.

I have been asking people about this for awhile. No one seems to know what is going on with him.

 

He hasn't been on the show since season 2. He was mentioned in season 4. He has not been officially killed on the show.

 

In real life, Wilko Johnson (the actor) had pancreatic cancer, and had retired. He recently had surgery to remove the majority of his innards, and is now cancer free. Not sure if he will act again.

Actually, wasn't the Night King's real war with the Starks. Bran the Builder built The Wall, Winterfell, and House Stark. Isn't it Bran the Conqueror that originally pushed him back during the long winter.

 

To me, it seems perfect that he should fall to House Stark and not Westros.

- Jamie goes down. Bran's comment - “How do you know there is an afterwards?” to Jaime has some websites assuming the white walker's win. But what if the comment is directed at Jaime personally and not all the players collectively. May its only Jaime who has no 'afterwards'.

 

- Ayra gets the Night King. She likes being the lone sniper role. She had that special weapon made for something.

 

- Dany becomes expendable. If she will not sit on the throne due to losing it to her nephew the story line opens up. She could get killed off or she may make some heroic sacrifice in a grand scene since her sole goal of life is now shattered.

I totally agree on minimal people dying in the battle next week...although I think they HAVE to kill off a big player. They can't kill off a bunch of big players because they have the rest of the season to worry about.

 

My guess is that somewhere between 2 and 5 of the following die:

-Davos Seaworth

-Edd Tollett

-Jaime Lannister

-Jorah Mormont

Of those, I'd be most surprised to see Brianna, Jaime, Jorah, and Gilly be the ones killed, but I still think they're fair game on the chopping block.

 

Everyone else important survives.

 

I thought they were kind of weak-handed in the folks they killed. They needed to kill off somebody more significant.

 

We saw Berric Dondarrion, Edd Tollett, Jorah Mormont, Lyanna Mormont, and Theon Greyjoy die...plus Melisandre, except her death had nothing to do with the battle.

 

No word for sure on Gendry, Podrick Payne, Tormund Giantsbane, since we didn't see them following the Night's King's death...but we're left to assume they're alive.

They showed them all after Arya killed the Night King.

 

Gendry was with Tormund on a heap of bodies. Podrick was next to Jamie who was next to Brienne.

I may be in the minority but I am glad they didn’t kill many of them off. I want to see the battle for the throne and they proceed forward now that they all survived.

I think S8E3 was definitely a good episode, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't left at least a little underwhelmed. Like I said above...for being the battle of mankind versus death, I felt like they were pretty weak when it came to killing off big characters. Also, obviously battle isn't crystal clear and discernable in person, but hey, it's TV, how about making it a little easier to see through the night and fog and magical winter storm? :lol2:

 

The moment when Melisandre lit all of the Dothraki swords was really cool...and I thought the view of their charge (and death) was pretty cool and really creepy. The looks on all the other men's faces as the Dothraki swards just disappeared like fireflies blinking off was awesome.

 

I liked Lyanna Mormont's death....tough little kid to the end. Speaking of which, I know there were several shots of the Army Of The Dead with dozens more wight giants walking in their ranks. Why did we only see one in the battle?

 

I was also kind of bummed by the way that Jon and Dany were largely removed from the battle because of the dragons. I was also bummed by the fact that even with us seeing the dead Starks in the Winterfell Crypts being resurrected by the Night King, we didn't get to see any of the Starks we knew from the series.

 

Arya was awesome. Her scene when she whipped out her bladed quarterstaff on the terrace behind the castle battlements was really cool...as was the sequence in the library and running from the wights.

 

I also liked the moment with Sansa and Tyrion grabbing for each other's hands in the crypt.

 

The Night King is so cool and creepy...I'm going to miss having him in the remainder of the show's run. He had a couple of evil smiles that he cracked during the episode, but I'm personally a fan of him being basically cold and expressionless the whole time. And his blank stare right back at Dany as he fell off of his dragon was awesome - no fear or concern at all. And the moment when he turned and looked at Jon, and then ever so slowly started to raise his arms from his sides, the look of "Ohhhhhhh crap..." on Jon's face as he started to charge to try and keep him from raising all the dead was great.

Yes. But missed on Jaime and we will have to see on Dany. I just do not see her playing second fiddle to Jon at the end. Either her or Jon takes a fall before its over.
