It's nice to see Euron's magical fleet that no one can see until the last minute make another appearance.

 

The ins and outs of military maneuvering -- once a highlight of the show -- have been reduced to little more than a device for the writers to somehow make Cersei relevant.

 

 

Exactly. It was actually kind of funny for me to hear them talk about how good a commander Jon Snow is, when in all 3 battles he was in charge of he had to be bailed out by someone else. Stannis, Littlefinger, and then Arya.

 

Furthermore their defense of Winterfell, while obviously doomed from the get go due to overwhelming numbers, was handled so badly that they deserved to lose.

 

To Euron's fleet though it was baffling to me that she didn't wheel around, skimming the islands on either side of the very narrow channel and raking the ships from the side. I mean you put a flotilla of ships in a narrow channel, with no room to maneuver and your only ranged weapon is relatively limited in its firing arc on account of the rigging and the bulk of the ship. They deserved to be strafed from the side or behind.

 

Honestly the most competent commander this season has been the Night King, and he got owned by a plot device.

 

It feels to me like instead of developing and planning things the writers are just scrambling to end it in a specific window of time within the budget they were given and that's it. I don't feel like they are doing many of the characters any narrative justice, or making the military side of things at all believable.

Definitely thought last nights episode was second only to last week's episode. I am onboard with the Sansa fans. Great character progression throughout the entire series and might be left standing at the end.

 

I though the whole party in the beginning had some of the funniest lines in the whole series. Great to see Jamie and Breinne finally get together, but the way they parted left me a little confused. Was he running to Cersei our of love, or to kill her and protect Brienne (Not wanting her to be hurt in the upcoming battle)?

 

 

I love Bronn's Character. Always have. I think he plays a huge roll in the end of it all.

The whole thing with Euron's fleet is infuriating. With no immediate predecessor or anything like it technologically apart from an individual-use crossbow, Qyburn invented a weapon that, when used in groups, can not only shoot down a moving target from 400 yards with a massive steel projectile, but one that can sink entire ships.

 

This is to say nothing of how they can sail anywhere in the world and NO ONE sees them doing it.

 

The writers gave Cersei an invincible naval force. I don't know why, other than to try and even up the odds.

I’m all in with Sansa at this point. She keeps telling folks they are underestimating Cersei and no one listens meanwhile everyone is still underestimating her and she has an Arya AND a Brienne.

 

I think Jamie is headed to King’s Landing to kill Cersei before she kills him. No clue if he gets to kill her or if Euron kills both of them or whatever. I feel like Jamie and Euron will fight though. I also feel like Jamie left Brienne because he doesn’t want her fighting this particular fight. He also can’t be true to her if Cersei is still alive.

 

I can’t wait to see what happens with The Hound and Arya.

No clue what happens with Jon and nothing surprises me.

 

Huge fan of Ser Bronn of Blackwater. Can’t be mad at a man just trying to get what is being promised to him over and over.

 

I think The Mountain kills Grey Worm.

I find all of the weekly criticisms of GOT hilarious though. I guess I’m just clueless and easily entertained. So many folks are sick with this season, the writers, etc. I’ve been highly entertained every episode this season. Not even a misplaced coffee cup will ruin that for me.

I really don't like how they are portraying Dany lately. The whole series she has overcome things to better herself and help others. She gets sold off and basically raped at first by Khal Drogo, before she changed the narrative on her and took control. She gets revenge on the one who killed Khal Drogo. She frees the Unsully, she takes over the whole Darthraki army by killing all it's leaders. She stays in slavors bay even longer than she wanted to, to help make sure they stayed free. She has the numbers to then take Kings Landing, but instead she flies North to save John and loses her Dragon. Then even after all that, she then still decides to help John and the North in their fight against the Night King. Instead of doing what she wanted to do all along and to take the throne.

 

She basically had had the power to take throne for the last 3 seasons, but keeps doing things to help others first. Yet now because Sansa decides not to trust her, that are portraying Dany as this selfish person who only wants the throne and doesn't care about anything else. Dany is one of my favorite characters and still is. After what each character has been through individually I feel like I am good with everyone and how they are being portrayed. Keep in mind, Dany wasn’t going to help Jon Snow until he bent the knee to her. It’s not like she just started power tripping. She’s been power tripping since she mounted Drogon. And I don’t blame her one bit. I’m just saying I’m not surprised she told Jon to never tell anyone he is the rightful heir to the throne because she wants it for herself. And that’s a natural feeling for someone who has been fighting to get the throne back since day one.

 

The show has done a great job of making sure every character has some kind of love/hate relationship with the fans. At least for me anyways. Other than Arya, Jon Snow, Brienne and Tyrion I feel like I have loved and hated every other character at sone point. Those four I just mentioned have always been in my good graces. I like Ser Bronn a lot too but he’s being a chump right now.

Same here. I have enjoyed this season probably as much as any other season. I can only imagine what the last two episodes have in store.

The reason behind the nitpicking was the tightly structured narrative that gave ample time for development of characters and make everything within the realm of believability for a character is now getting condensed to the nth degree. This makes characters look like they are acting out of sorts when if they were given more time would make more sense.

 

It's like looking at the MCU vs the DCEU. One took the time to develop the characters over many films and give them all motivations and build the universe. The other just tried to rush it, do it all at once, and it fell flat. We started this series with the former and I fear that we may well end it with the latter. I have enjoyed things, but my patience has been tested since last season. This is why I loathe GRRM so much, had he finished the bloody books then the narrative structure of the last few seasons wouldn't have seemed so slapdash and half baked.

I remember when ADWD came out we talked about the books. I'm in the same boat as you. I've been very nitpicky about this season and it's frustrated me quite a bit. There is still some hope left as there are 2 80-minute episodes but from the way the first 4 went, I'm worried this show has gone the way of Dexter.

 

On the plus side, this season has actually made me hope GRRM actually finishes the books because I need his view of the ending.
