Ahh, is it that time of year again? The bickering, complaining, and arguing are really warming me up for Thanksgiving with the ol' family.

 

Tubby wasn't kidding when he labeled Carter's loss "huge". That Woo was actually worse last night than I remembered him being last year.

 

But in my world, a "W" is a beautiful thing, especially if you pay attention to college basketball as a whole and not just UK...

Dang fellas it is early...UK is no way near Final Four material yet...but no one is. All is OK in Lexington.

That is an hilarious opinion, of which you're entitled....:lol:

 

It was the first regular season game....and all this haven't won a National Championship in "x" years or been to the final four comments, program is down since Coach Smith got there is amazing.

 

For the record, ONE team has to win the National Championship every year and I know this is surprising, but it will NOT be UK....that may be shocking to some but just reality, it won't happen every year, five years or ten years. All of the other D1 programs, are trying to get better also.

 

UK is scrutinized and coached by more "experts", than most other programs combined.

After watching most of the game on taped delay its obvious we have a lot to work on, but I did see potential there. Stevenson IMO will be a good contributor, but I still think he will have his struggles. I know Im in the minority, but I think getting Sheray Thomas back will help.

As for Bobby Perry, he is not a big time player. Hes going to benefit from other players playing well and getting him the ball.

One thing that needs to happen is our defense needs to force more turnovers and us get a few fast break baskets. We will be a whole lot better team come January then we will be the 1st 7 or 8 games. By then the 4 freshmen will have some games under their belt and will be much better than now.

Not too upset with this one. There are lots of sloppy games around the country. Great performance by Stevenson.

Thing is, Morris probably only touched the ball 7 or 8 times the entire night in the post. Plagued by foul trouble and people not looking down low for him. Does anyone know his minutes? Did he even play 20 on the night?

22 Minutes and 5-7 from the field. 12-10 over 20 minutes is pretty good. Now if they can just keep him involved the whole game. It would be great to see him put up about 16-11 every night.

UK isn't Final Four material now and probably won't be all year. That being said, I just don't want fans having unrealistic expectations and UK not living up to them.....and thus causing the season to be a failure.

 

UK has a really bad senior class, a solid junior class, and 1 sophmore; meaning a lot of freshman are going to have to play. A season/record similar to last year is about what I expect, and that isn't too bad considering UK's talent level right now.

I agree and time/game experience, will help all and certainly those you mentioned.

 

Bradley will have to make better decisions at the PG position. Perry is a role player and now, must elevate his game and be a contributor, which is not often easy for a player. Thomas, Crawford and Morris will be counted on heavily, on both ends of the court to rebound, set picks, deny defensively and pick up the scoring load, on a consistent basis.

 

Several freshmen and new players, will have to adjust to the college game and I believe like you, they will in time.

 

Young team, with limited experience for the most part of being together and the returning veterans, will have to take their game up a notch each time out and I'm sure, they will be working on that in practice. I like the idea of the Wed. and Fri. game, to test stamina and get UK focused on playing.

After watching the game last night he had to phantom foul calls on him last night. They were both kindof weird plays, but he never touched the guys.

I think UK should have a little more motion in their offense and create situations for Morris to be isolated and Crawford to get the ball on the move towards the basket.

I think this team will be better than last years. I do have one negative comment and I hope he proves me wrong, but if we are waiting for Randolf Morris to take us to the promised land it's going to be a long wait.The fouls he gets are because he's lazy and doesn't get himself in position. This is his third year and I don't think I've seen him run in an all out sprint yet.

Great idea on Crawford but most of the games I see, when he drives to the basket, his focus is more on contact and not finishing. He just doesn't seem comfortable in that style but hopefully, he will improve and he will need to.

 

Crawford needs more wing screens and baseline movement, rather than trying to "one-on-one" players. His lack of foot speed and the quickness of most defenders guarding him, will force him to rely on his shooting, rather than breakdown moves.

I never invest much into this logic and making the Final Four as the "end all, be all" kind of thing. In a one and done deal, anything can happen... ask George Mason, a team that early last season was not Final Four material and probably never was all of last season.

I see no improvements from last year's squad. Don't get me wrong - Stevenson had an impressive debut, Crawford appears that he might have a good season, and Morris played decent - but there is no flow, no tempo, and no intensity for the Cats.

 

Where have I seen that before?

 

I wouldn't get too worked up over the season opener though. I'd give these guys a little time. If we consistently see no flow, no tempo and no instensity then...well...I guess we'll blame the point guard again for ruining the team.
