November 16, 200619 yr I can see why. How many titles did they win from 79-95 again? What a run... Spoiled nonetheless...
November 16, 200619 yr No apology necessary. I don't want to sound negative after one game. However this one game gives no indication of anything different than what has become a 10 loss season. I know that the UCLA dynasty will never be matched. My expectations are not that. I do expect to compete year in year out without double figure losses. If that expectation is too high, be thankful your not my children. I don't believe in having mediocre expectations. I believe in having high expectations that are attainable. Plain and simple we need an offensive coordinator just like the football team did. UK has forgotten what its like to score.I believe all fans, players and coaches have high expectations, including myself. I don't get hung up on 4, 6 or 10 losses, but rather how a team is progressing, developing, running their offense and defensive execution, man-to-man, switching, rebounding and continuity. Early games, are their on most coaches schedule, to evaluate talent in a competitive setting. To see how they progressed from practicing against teammates, to game competition and believe me, it often is not the same. In practice, a player often knows strengths and weaknesses of his teammate, thus he can often anticipate or look for that option, which doesn't always reveals their own flaws. Game competition allows the staff, to make changes in talent and evaluate player ability. Have I mentioned, that was the first game....
November 16, 200619 yr I am and have always been a UK fan. I will always be a UK fan. I look at things like this, do you know how to boil a live frog? You can't get the water boiling and throw him in you have to put him in comfortable water and gradually increase the temperature. If you do it this way he will eventually die. I'm afraid we don't realize the water is getting hotter. Nice analogy... And I agree to some extent, but at this point I'm willing to take a wait and see approach.

November 16, 200619 yr The main beef I have is that we used to be in the running for every MacDonalds All-American. Now, not so much. Why would I want to come to Lexington? Okay, there is Ashley Judd, but other than that,,,what do I get? Why not go to Florida, Duke, North Carolina? I just see the incoming classes sometimes and wonder if Pitino were here, would he have even pursued some of these guys? I understand that they have 2 different schools of thought/style, but am I the only one who feels that way?

The problem with the roster you see is that a portion of it was needed as a backup plan after big names left Tubby at the alter...
November 16, 200619 yr I saw today where Ashley has a provocative cover on a magazine. Can't remember which one. Do you think it will help?

November 16, 200619 yr Is Pitino bringing in better talent at UL during the same time frame, that Smith is getting criticized for at UK? I would say the classes are comparable, even though there is no real way to judge that. Every college has somewhat dropped in talent with the influx of high school kids going to the NBA; that is soon to change and these next few years it will be a little more measurable.
November 16, 200619 yr Is Pitino bringing in better talent at UL during the same time frame, that Smith is getting criticized for at UK? My opinion is that UK and UL are, have been, and always will be,,,,apples and oranges. It is also my opinion that if Pitino had stayed that UK would still be on par with Duke. It would have drawn interest from the best players every year, without exception. But that's just my humble take!

Unfortunatley, Pitino had other ideas and probably wishes he would not have acted upon them. Some just cannot get over the fact he is gone nearly 10 years later and expect the same type of play, etc.
November 16, 200619 yr I would say the classes are comparable, even though there is no real way to judge that. Every college has somewhat dropped in talent with the influx of high school kids going to the NBA; that is soon to change and these next few years it will be a little more measurable.I agree and will add one more thought, regarding talent. For years, the Mid-Majors would have perhaps 1-2 at the most, players that could play for most schools. In the last 8-10 years, they are getting much more talent and it could be resulting from various reasons. Tuition costs, School location, Playing time, simply other reasons and talent is getting spread out more. Yes, the elite teams will get their share of athletes and McD's All-Americans but they are also going, to other programs who rarely, if ever signed them. That is not a knock on UK, but often times players go to schools, for reasons other than history. They may like the coach, assistants, academic reasons or stop off for the NBA. UK doesn't get the type of athletes that North Carolina does but that doesn't preclude them from beating each other.....Isn't UK leading all time in wins and hasn't that margin increased? Have I mentioned, that was the first game.....
November 16, 200619 yr Does everybody realize that we expect Bobby Perry to be a major contributor if not the leading scorer. He is from where? What could UNC, Duke, Wake, NC State have missed. UK fans believe that he is capable of playing a role that no one ever thought he could. This is the optimism that we have. I expect him to drop 15-20 on people. I am a fool and so is everyone else if they don't believe that there needs to be some changes. Changes don't necessarily mean the head coach, but it is time to take a look at the direction of the program. We were 1-10, we are 10-20-, will will be what 20-30?
November 16, 200619 yr UK draws interest from the best players. They just can't sign them... Yeah, Yeah, I'm not inciteable today so you can give up!!! I also graduated from UL and still bled blue. I also know all the little ditties UL says prior to the Cats game,,,"You can't spell SUCK without UK"
