I actually just got to watch most of the longer video.

 

Wow. The small group taunting the kids are very racist and hateful.

 

Mr. Phillips clearly approached the kids looking for a confrontation. The kids were responding to the hate from the other group with a chant (acceptable imo). They look confused when Phillips walks up to them.

 

This story got so twisted and out of control, its insane.

 

There are several issues here.

 

*Where are the chaperones?

*why is the African American group harrassing/threatening kids?

*why did Phillips and his group approach the kids looking to start something?

*still not a fan of the tomahawk but the group seemed confused about what was going on...

 

I don't think anyone should be expelled based on what I have seen.

These kids grew up with social media in their face 24/7. They’ve got to know better. This stuff needs to be behind us. Hate begets hate, and we need to be better as a society. This stuff can’t keep being dismissed.

 

There were a lot of negatives in the circumstances surrounding these videos. That should never be used as an excuse. “What did the boys do wrong other than........” Come on, man. Accountability. “Kids will be kids” is so tired.

However, those not as fortunate as myself don’t have access to the same schools that I have, don’t have access to the same occupation that I have, don’t have access to the same benefits that I have, don’t have access to the same level of protection that I have.

 

It’s a complicated and loaded question that you ask because at face value we are all “equals” even though reality says otherwise. The reality that you live ultimately answers the question that you ask.

Guys, I really think we all just need to chill. A lot of us are getting in trouble for not being smarter about what we post. We all agree it was a bad thing that happened. We only disagree on how serious it was and who walked up to who.

Who walked up to who? Its obvious who walked up to who. Watch the video! That doesn't exonerate these kids, but to say they are the only ones to blame is just a lack of reasonable judgement.

I did. I consider that to be the negative circumstances. I don’t think it excuses their behavior.

The Native American walked into a group of kids, who had been riled up by a group of men shouting racist remarks at them. Again, the kids shouldn't have mocked him, but he walked into a group of boys chanting and beating a drum.
