Now that you mentioned it, it would have been a great opportunity for Campbell County to work on that part of their game.

It would be curious to know the details. How long was full court pressure applied? How much time was split between starters and the bench?

 

With a running clock, it's hard to get to 97 points unless you are really pushing the action, unless they had 60 or 70 in the 1st half. What was halftime score?

Just curious what do you all suggest they do? Hold the ball?

 

Is there an option between "press" and "hold the ball"? Maybe therein lies the answer.

That's true but I watched two very lopsided games last night in the 9th all A. My point is even if we do a blind draw,seed or go to a classification we are going to always have games like this. I just don't think we can blame the winning coach/team. Teams that aren't competitive within their districts and know it do not have to play these games.

Why would you press at all on a game like this? Everyone probably knew the margin of victory would be large. If the game ever got close or you got nervous you could always go to the press then.

So I had heard that the Calvary AD told the other district AD's that the girls basketball team was not going to be competitive and Calvary would like to not play any district games and just take the 4th seed. Brossart and Scott said no problem. Campbell said only if you take the 4th seed in all sports. Calvary didn't want to do that.

I would say that 60 points is definitely enough. You do not let your girls shoot until they have ran offense for three minutes without turning it over. It is really easy to tell the bottom of the bench to not shoot, you say "Girls, we are up by 60. We will not embarrass anyone. You are not allowed to shoot unless you've ran offense for three minutes without turning it over."

I would think the majority would rule on that.

Not sure why Campbell wouldn’t agree to that. I’ve seen it in other districts.

My rules for a game like this:

 

1. If you feel like you must press, at a 20 point lead be done with it no matter what.

 

2. Once the lead gets to 36 and a running clock, no starters should play any more.

 

3. If things are still getting ugly with the backups in, no one can shoot on an offensive possession until all 5 players have touched the ball.

 

Feel free to start any of the above earlier than I said but if you have any class about you, do not do it later than I said.
