Silver Grove has already "opted out" of the district seeding game process. I (personally) can't see why Calvary couldn't do the same.

 

The big picture is that come tournament time SG and Calvary play each other for the privilege of getting their brains beat in by the Number One seed.

 

Since the district is split three "big" schools and two "small" schools, the big schools (more competitive schools) are always going to vote to seed, and the two small schools have an annual death sentence come district tournament time.

 

Even if this were a non-seeded district and SG and Calvary were to draw opposite Brossart, Scott, and Campbell County, they would get beat substantially in the district finals, pick up a District Runner-Up trophy, and then be beaten substantially in the first round of the region.

This is spot on correct. Nothing complicated about it. Until there is a massive change in how the "small schools" in this district are able to pull in players, there is an annual death sentence by the districts semifinals and there's not much to do about it. I don't believe either Calvary or SG have anything that resemble "feeder programs." Sometimes it doesn't come down to just strategy to effort.

 

But there's not much of a way around it. I don't seem how drawing seeds for this district help. Because like Mustang says, that would just create a skewed Regional tournament, which doesn't help anyone either.

 

The only thing I don't understand is why one sport's seeds has to affect other sports. For example, if SG and CCS forego district games in the regular season for girls basketball, why should have have anything to do with baseball? Or volleyball or boys soccer?

Everyone on here is quick to bash a girls blowout game like this yet when it happens on the boys side (Campbell vs. Calvary), nothing is said there. Seems very hypocritical to me.

No way would Campbell County girls basketball have the authority to dictate other sports seeds. If Calvary did not want to play the game just don't play it's pretty simple. Someone from Calvary had to schedule this game with someone from Campbell. No games are just automatically scheduled. I was at a school for a few years that had Covington Latin in the district we never played them.

History lesson - Back in 1987-88 the 36th District was comprised of Campbell County, Highlands, Brossart and Silver Grove (and maybe Scott).

Brossart and Silver Grove were both D-III teams back then. We were all 9th Region teams.

 

Silver Grove had two Division I players - Bev Smith and Christy Greis

Brossart had NAIA Mount St. Joseph Hall of Famer - DeAnn Schroeder

 

SG defeated Campbell County and Brossart dispatched Highlands.

The two played in the District Finals. Neither had a band. The Campbell County Band Director, Todd Whitford, who was in attendance had to run out and get his trumpet and did a solo.

I think in general that's correct. But I can tell you from knowing some people involved, Calvary was told to schedule games with the big three in the 37th District. The girls' coach advised against it but didn't fight it hard.

In high school and beyond, run the score up whenever possible. That's life. Some people/teams are just better than you. Suck it up and deal with it.

 

That said, this isn't running the score up, this is one team just being vastly superior to the other one. How is that Campbell County's fault?

You just say "Girls, we are winning by 50 points. Play hard but do not look to score at every opportunity."

But, the 37th District is seeded by prior agreement between the schools. (They file their plan with the state.) I don't think Calvary can now decide on their own to not play a 37th district school. That would mess up the seeding process. So they approached the others for a solution. A solution could not be worked out.

Final per KHSAA scoreboard. I know that very few of you agree with me on this kind of stuff, But you can’t convince me that they were not things that could’ve been done to make this a mere 62 point victory as opposed to an 82 point victory.
