I was looking back in old threads and saw a thread about the Bengals next coach from 2016. Obviously at this point last year we all thought Marvin was done due to some shotty reporting from Adam Schefter.

 

So I bring it back up again, if for no other reason than to enjoy reading responses. Who is coaching the Bengals next year?

 

Marvin?

Hue?

Someone else?

Maybe not this year, but I could see his name mentioned in a year or two.

I see no way Mikey can bring back his buddy, Marv. I know we've said this before, but pictures of the stadium speak volumes. Unfortunately, Mikey boy had already made his bottom dollar this year, as a lot of that comes in season ticket sales, but he HAS to know after the 4-1 start to no playoff contention will result in lost sales next year if something isn't done.

 

With this said, it can't be Hue although I could see it being him. Another big time Mikey move would be bringing in Vance Joseph once he's fired. I'd like them to stay away from things like Lincoln Riley, etc, the big splash college name, but also get out of the comfort zone with the Mavin cronies.

 

If they are staying in the Marvin tree, I wish their first call would be to Zimmer, admit you made a mistake years ago by letting him go and see what his can't say no number is. I have no idea if he has any connections in the Cincy area still that would make this enticing or not, but as a Bengals fan it would pump me up.

 

What are your thoughts?

I really feel like this is it for Marvin. This just feels different to me. I don’t see them moving out of the Marvin coaching tree though. I think the first calls they make are definitely Zimmer, Gruden, Joseph, and obviously Hue who is already here. Id love for them to blow the whole thing up, but they won’t.

No idea who the next head coach will be but I will say that in 2016 it wasn’t shotty reporting by Schefter. Marvin was good as gone until a late season meeting with Mike Brown that gave him a bit more control which enticed him to stay.

I believe Marvin will be the coach as long as he wants. So until he is officially gone, I will say Marvin.

Seriously, McCarthy is Marvin Lewis 2.0. Only real difference is he lucked into one of the greatest QBs of all-time.

If I'm the Bengals, I go for a disciplinarian. No clue who that is, but they're such an undisciplined team, just cleaning that up would improve things ten fold.

Tom Coughlin was a finalist for the job with Marvin back in 2003. If I had a guess if the Bengals don't just promote Hue. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to see if he has any interest in returning to coaching. He definitely would bring discipline.

Unless Zimmer gets fired. I don't think the Bengals could even talk to Zimmer. Also there is zero reason for Zimmer to leave Minnesota to come here if it is up to him.

Exactly. I'd be fine if he was here. But, there's no chance of him leaving the Vikes to come to the Bengals. Zero.

I agree any coaches who have connections here, who are available they will look at. In fact I would bet good money if either Jay Gruden or Zimmer gets fired, one of those two will then be the next coach.

 

A guy who I would be interested in is the new Vikings OC Kevin Stefanski. He is only 36 years old and is a coach on the rise. He has coached Qb's for many years. He fits the mold of the new younger coach we are wanting the Bengals to get. He has been under different head coaches, so he has seen how to do things in different ways. He is the guy I would want the Bengals to look at if they truly look outside the Marvin coaching tree.

He has been their OC. Pat Shurmur wanted him to be his OC with the Giants this year when he left the Vikings, but the Vikings didn't allow him to leave. He recently was just promoted to the OC, after the Vikings fired their OC. His first game they just scored 41 points.

 

Sometime guys just need to be given their shot. The Redskins offense also was not known to be this high flying great offense when the Rams decided to hire 32 year old Sean McVay to be their head coach. I believe McVay only called played for one season for the Redskins before he got the job.

 

People say they want someone young, who is an offensive mind, who will bring energy. The Bengals possibly would have a decent shot at this one, because of Zimmer. I could see Zimmer actually putting in a good word about why it would be a good job for him, if he has a chance at some jobs.
