He has been their OC. Pat Shurmur wanted him to be his OC with the Giants this year when he left the Vikings, but the Vikings didn't allow him to leave. He recently was just promoted to the OC, after the Vikings fired their OC. His first game they just scored 41 points.

 

Sometime guys just need to be given their shot. The Redskins offense also was not known to be this high flying great offense when the Rams decided to hire 32 year old Sean McVay to be their head coach. I believe McVay only called played for one season for the Redskins before he got the job.

 

People say they want someone young, who is an offensive mind, who will bring energy. The Bengals possibly would have a decent shot at this one, because of Zimmer. I could see Zimmer actually putting in a good word about why it would be a good job for him, if he has a chance at some jobs.

Seeing the success Kevin Stefanski is having with the Browns. Just made me remember, how he was one of the first names I brought up, back when we were talking about coaches to replace Lewis. It makes me even more sad now because, he definitely is doing a great job with the Browns. I wish the Bengals would have asked for my opinion on who to hire. ??

Does Stefanski run the offense and call the plays? I think he does. I ask because people are questioning Taylor on why he is calling the plays. It seems like that is always questioned when a team is losing and not questioned when a team is winning.

If we would have hired Stefanski, I doubt our record would have been that much better. If so, we would not have been able to draft Joe Burrow.

He does call the plays for Cleveland. Having a Head Coach who also calls the offense, definitely is a good thing in my opinion. As long as he is good at calling plays. If your head coach is the one calling plays, you don’t have to worry about losing your play caller if your team is successful, and allows your offense to get use to a system without worrying about changes because of coaches leaving if you have success. 
 

As for Taylor is track record as a play caller is not good. His short OC year when he took over for Bill Lazor in Miami for half of a year, the offense regressed. He was only at UC for one year and the offense was horrible. So as a play caller he doesn’t have much to stand on to show he is good at it. 
 

I think it it to late for Taylor here now in Cincy. With how bad they have been, and some of the lockerroom issues hurt him. I don’t think he surrounded himself with the best staff. It would have been interesting to see how he would have done, if he surrounded himself with better coaches . Because in terms of game and clock management and things like that. I think he does a pretty good job.

It would have depended on who Stefanski brought in to his staff. I think Stefanski did a ten times better job putting a staff together, than what Taylor did here. Which I think hurt Taylor a lot. 
 

You are correct though, that would mean we wouldn’t have Burrow most likely. 

I just wanted to bring this thread back to the top for us all to look back on and laugh at some of these takes about Taylor.

Whew! I just read my posts in this thread. I believe I pass the hindsight scrutiny on this one.

Well I definitely was wrong in saying it may have been to late for Taylor, and how he may not have hired the best staff. His play calling still is a concern to me at times, but at the end of the day he has done a great job as HC and now in about 5 more days will be a Super Bowl Champion Coach!
