On a dry field, I am skeptical that Rockcastle will be able to stop the Golden Eagles on the road any better than they stopped Mason County at home in last season's regional final.

 

Almost any informed person on Rockcastle football will tell you that last year's team overachieved from the start. Miller went down early, the offensive and defensive line was younger and more inexperienced, and the skilled position players were still pretty green (except for the QB Burkhart, of course). At a school when a regional championship is expected every year, I feel like the expectations were temporarily lowered in '05. Larkey's coaching, along with the unexpected emergence of the Stallsworth kid got them into the final four.

 

This season is completely different. The Rocket faithful expect more from them than any team since '01 and '02. I look for this to be a close game, but I can assure you that looking at the Rockcastle County team from a year ago when making a prediction in this one will leave you far from accurate.

The ROCK has been there done that many times, this is there time of year. No question who will prevail, I would say by 2 touchdowns, It may be close until 3rd quarter but the ROCK will pull away in the end! GO ROCKETS

I find it funny that you are comparing last year's JC team at how they stopped Mason and how that will carry over to this years JC-Rock game. Besides Mason County didn't exactly run over Rock, they had 157 ards on the ground but right at 300 passing. Their tall WR killed the Rock's DB's and Sargent running the ball as a pass threat and run threat is how Mason County got the rushing yards. That is two totally different running schemes, JC will be coming at Rock and they sure don't have the pass threat that Mason posed last year. Everyone keeps saying that JC proved to people that they can throw the ball, yet they only completed 5-15 passes.:confused: 1 of them was by Grim, the other was a short screen pass and two others were passes that were thrown up and #21 was wide open. Many times Ashalnd dropped wide open interceptions.

We can talk on here and discuss this game all we want. Come friday night, we are going to see one of the best games in recent memory.

 

This being the BIGGEST game in Johnson Central's football history, I look for the PA guy and music guy to pull out all the stops.

 

Both teams deserve to be playing in the region finals. Larkey and Matney have history, however the schools have never played before.

My appologies for any personal attacks. If you had read some other threads that I've discussed in, you would see why I had to defend myself in such a way.

 

But I think you missed the point of your own post. First, you said that if Mason had blocked better on the FG, Rock wouldn't have blocked it and Mason would've won. (or something along those lines.) But as I stated to you, Rock didn't block it. The kicker fell down due to the muddy field. It went over the line, but was well short of the goal posts. Then you came back and talked about the length of the FG. The length wasn't a problem. I watched the kicker in warm ups and it was well within his range. But no kicker can kick that far laying on his backside.

Many, including myself, have criticized Johnson Central's soft schedule, but to be honest, I don't know that Rockcastle has any truly impressive wins outside of the two over Bell County. And even Bell appeared to be a little below its usual standards this season.

 

Whichever team wins this week will have done it against the best team on their schedule.

No different than the people picking Rock based on the fact that "they've been there before." Johnson Central won't need to pass often, and three touchdown passes last week is just something else to think about. If Johnson Central does not put the ball on the ground as they did against Madison Southern last year, I don't think that this will be as close as people expect. Turnovers or the lack thereof will be huge in this game, but JC seems better equipped to come from behind than Rock does.

Even though I don't agree with BADCAT74, I picked JC in the poll, you don't need to be so disrespectful to the entire Ashland Program. To be honest I'm not sure the last time Ashland didn't make the playoffs even back when only the District Champ and Runner-Up made the playoffs. I understand that some, very few that I know, of our fans might want you to lose this week but the shots you just took are uncalled for especially after this past Friday.

 

As far as this week goes..Don't under estimate Coach Larkey and Staff. They do a great job, as does Coach Matney and his Staff. Rockcastle will come into the Nest with a game plan that will try and dissect the Golden Eagle Defense and make JC prove they can move the ball against a VERY solid "Rock" Defense. If the game stays close and Coach Matney doesn't tip his entire hand on offense before half Johnson Central can win.

with out ruffling any feathers (pun intended) I truly believe that the Patriots of Lincoln would beat Johnson Central. I know they beat Rockcastle. So, with that being said, I think that Rockcastle will be the best team that Johnson Central has faced all year while Johnson Central will be the second best team that Rockcastle has faced this year.
