This used to bother me, but considering that high school kids no longer seem to understand the definition of the word committed, I don't really care anymore.

It stinks, but signing period never has been this early. Years past, a new staff would make all the moves they felt they needed to and a kid still had a couple months before anyone was putting pen to paper.

 

I like the early signing period, but with coaching changes only just now happening, it really makes it tough on this area of the recruiting process.

On the one hand you hate it for the kid. On the other, this is better than the kid staying at UofL, never seeing the field and burning eligibility.

macdon is a Franklin-Simpson guy - it's about Jack Randolph. Per this story in the Courier-Journal (Louisville football staff revokes recruit scholarship offers), the part related to Randolph was:

 

"Randolph said he received a call from recruiting staffer Pete Nochta, who informed him that “they were just looking to go in a different direction offensive line-wise, and told me I didn’t have the length or the weight to play in their system, so they pulled their scholarship," Randolph said."

 

I agree, it happens with coaching changes. It's unfortunate for basically everyone.

 

For the record, Jack Randolph is 6'4", 285 lbs. I'm interested in what their system calls for.

 

You're right, it certainly happens a lot with coaching changes, but I do feel for the Randolph kid who was slated to enroll and be living on campus a month from now. I wish him the best of luck in finding a new home, I'm sure there will be a slew of programs lining up for his service.

 

Satterfield having someone else call to deliver the news seems small to me.

 

I'm sure UL and Satterfield will be fine, and I'm sure there are a handful of kids that had committed to Appy St. that will be heading to the Derby City.

It still sucks though. Maybe some of these kids were life long Cards fans. Maybe this was their dream school. That's a difficult situation.

I get your point. Every kid who dreams of playing at UK or UofL don't have div 1 talent though. These kids obviously do have that type of talent. Recruiting is long and extremely stressful to all involved. When a kid commits; there is a relief like non other. To have that taken away at the last minute is very difficult. I understand why Coach did it; but that must suck for those kids who dreamed of playing at Louisville.

Right, and at least they have time to change courses. I don't disagree with Coach's decision. And it's better to hear this now than to hear later that he doesn't fit their system.

I seen a couple kids decommitted.

New Coach has new system and needs kids that fits his system. Still February signing date. UL going to bring in different guys that will sign in February. NC St. O-line Coach coming to UL may flip a NC St. Kid. Hate it for the kids, but it’s a billion dollar buisness.

Recruiting is just like dating; until signatures are obtained, that is all you are doing, just dating and you aren't "married". Players de-committing is nothing new just like coaches leaving for other jobs (as the case with Satterfield in terms of how he got to UofL) isn't new. My problem with this particular case is Satterfield just stated last week that "the days of UofL's doors being closed to Kentucky players are over" creates bad optics and if he was going to pull these offers he could have kept that comment to himself at least in this class. I am curious to know just how many Kentucky players had received offers from Petrino which I am guessing is about 4 from the previous posts but since it looks like UofL's roster only had 14 seniors, 4 might have been a high number for KY players so the coach felt he needed to trim that number down. I don't know the players involved but if they were some of the "top" players in the state it is a little disheartening. UofL is not a national power nor will it be anytime in the near future IMO and given that they do not seem to have any 4 and 5 star players committed I'm not sure just what their plans are although they've go their work cut out of them for February the signing date.

 

I wouldn't walk-on to ANY school frankly because those roads are long and arduous but what I would do is take the next best offer or head to a JC that was a good fit for a shot at big time later.

Well first of all, his statement didn't mean he was going to take every KY kid that wanted to come to Louisville. It only creates a bad optic if you are looking for something to complain about. The program, as a whole, was very shut off during Petrino. High school coaches couldn't come watch practice, he rarely visited any in-state recruits, held no camps, etc... He's already visited several schools in Louisville, something Petrino never did in his time here.

 

Just because Satterfield said the program would be more open doesn't mean he has to take every KY kid that wants to come. That's ridiculous. He also doesn't have to honor any offers extended by the previous staff.

 

If Satterfield pulled a scholarship from a kid from North Carolina and gave it to a KY kid, would this thread exist?
