Some slimy coaches pull offers from kids when they are injured...some coaches stand behind their offers. It's all a matter of prospective.

Sure it does. If someone only cares because it's a kid from KY getting his offer pulled, or only cares because it's Louisville doing it, they don't really care about the action of pulling scholarships. They "care" because they are looking for a reason to complain.

 

I think it is human nature to care more about someone you've never met from your own state, than from a state somewhere else. Especially amongst the subset of humanity in the bucket of sports' fans (like everyone on this site, presumably, would fall into). Likewise, I'm happier for a kid from Pikeville getting to play at Vandy (hypothetically) than I would be for a kid from Tupelo getting to play at Vandy...if only marginally. I don't think being provincial proves anything on either side, except that, we are going to care more about one of our own.

Heck, schollies are one-year renewable anyway, so really all this coach did was save these kids from having to transfer and burn a year down the road.

 

The only part, beyond who made the call, that I felt for was the kid(s) that was graduating early to be on UL's campus in a month. That stings. However, as Mr. MustangFan has pointed out on several occasions, life is tough, get used to it.

No at this point the University/Coach has fulfilled their commitment. The players know coming in they are on a 1 year deal.

So you mean the guy that spend the time and effort building a relationship with the kid and his family wanted to be the one to make the call and let him know what was going on? Dang, seems like the staff handled it absolutely perfectly. Amazing how that detail was never shared before now.

If there is more to the story than that, I don't know it, but I think a lot of head coaches would have made that life-altering phone call themselves. Nothing more, and nothing less. No one is bashing UL, but good Lord, the chip on your shoulder is crazy. If you took my post as "bashing" you need to realign your filter settings.

UofL isn’t offering kids scholarships. Bobby Petrino offered a scholarship to a kid to play football at UofL. The offer is from Petrino, not the University. UofL is under no obligation to any commit until they sign on the dotted line.

To me this isn’t a U of L Petrino debate, its a college football debate. I would have the same stance if it was UK.

However, If you look at the U of L situation, Petrino then employed by U of L made a commitment to a HS player. Petrino left and according to the article Tyra the AD employed by the University reached out to the commits and stood behind the offers...now the new Coach comes in, Tyra says do whatever you need to do... to me that’s shady.
