Just seen where Highlands had school today in the dark no electric.

That might've been cool just to mix things up from the ordinary same old same old school day. Years from now the kids will be talking about their one school day in the dark. Bet that cell phone flashlights were glowing all over the place. I suppose there might be some with reasons to disapprove, and say that school should've been cancelled, and they might have legitimate concerns, but I've not heard that anything tragic came from it all. Who knows (gasp) there might've been a few sneaky puppy love kisses spawned by the whole experience. :lol2:

Kids probably had fun with it.

That will be better than going to school with electricity an extra day in the summer.

Tough for today’s kids to go without electricity. I agree with BBF, it probably was a different kind of learning experience. Would have been a huge bonus to have all their cell phones go dead. Plus, it is probably safer to have them at school in the dark than possibly home alone with parents at work.

From many of the kid's responses to the school/Superintendent's tweets, I think calling it a "learning experience" is quite a stretch. Some of their responses were pretty funny.

I think she made a much bigger deal of it than it really was.

 

If she didn't want her kids there, she could have just gone and picked them up. Many parents didn't have that opportunity since they were on the way to work or at work already.

 

There were also several homes without power in the area.

I guess if they don't like how the school is handling a certain situation the parents could always have their kids transfer.

Highlands handled it exactly as they should have, considering the circumstances. The kids weren't cold or hungry and they were still able to get things done.

 

As for the media member who was running her mouth about it, she chose to send her kid there and has the option to send him somewhere else. Seems like she doesn't do well when she can't influence (read: control) what's going on.

The middle and high school was fed like champs. I never saw anything about the elementary schools, but would like to see what they had. This isn't necessarily saying it wasn't as good, but just that it wasn't promoted like the others and makes me wonder.

The person that was complaining the most on Twitter is the same person that would have complained if they called school off 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. Just looking for reasons to complain.

I assume that there is a backup generator to power at least the fire alarm and emergency lighting?

I could be wrong but I think that is required. @Bengal Maniac can probably clarify if that is required.
