Pat Forde has details in this article. I think Brohm was torn but a place he was happy offered more money.

I don’t think money was the deciding factor. I mean we are talking millions of dollars. How much does one man really need when we are talking $5 million vs. $6 million?

 

I think it came down to timing. He’s building something special at Purdue, has a talented recruiting class coming in and a potential future Heisman candidate.

 

Meanwhile, Louisville is an absolute mess that will require serious rebuilding.

I got the same feeling. I certainly don't want anybody that doesn't want to be here. Couple that with the price tag, I'm good with moving on.

There are good coaches out there. He'll find a solid guy. Brohm was the top choice for obvious reasons: he was the only one that the entire fan base would be united behind and the only one that could salvage a recruiting class for this year. No one else has those two benefits. That's why it's such a shame... but there are other good coaches out there.

Bad decision by Brohm. Neal Brown should be the guy.

 

I think it depends on what his goals are as a coach if it's a bad move. If his ultimate goal is to land a job at one of the traditional top football schools. Then staying at Purdue is the right move, because better chance it happens quicker at Purdue because he can win quicker to become that next top cant miss coach everyone wants that I talked about. He has a very good recruiting class coming in next year. So if he can get Purdue to even a 8 and 4 or 9 and 3 season next year or the year after. Then chances are his name literally will be a job where even a USC wouldn't keep a coach that only won 5 games because they would be in the we have to have this guy thinking.

 

If his goal is to land that top job. The quicker path now is Purdue, where it could happen in the next year or two. While at UL it may be a 3 or 4 year wait while rebuilding. Then taking a chance of really making his UL people mad if he did leave them for a better job after just a few years.

I think Fickel would leave in a New York minute to get a Power 5 job. Pay would be better, also.

Having spent the last two days scouring through Louisville Twitter for coaching news, I can report that a large number of Louisville fans are exceedingly stupid and I frankly don't care what they think.
