Coach Larkey has long known Greg Nord at UofL and was in the middle of this recruiting battle and spoke to several coaches at UofL earlier in the year. The claim that he has not yet spoken to a team coach indicates that he has not recently since the drop of scholly. If there were conditions then Coach Larkey would've known them. Also I know for a fact that only 2 game tapes this season were sent and they were from the beginning of the season. How can progress be seen from that. No one from UofL has made an appearence at the Rock this year to see first hand either. Just trying to settle some of the accusations.

You say the University "lied" and broke thier word, but were you witness to the "word" they gave. I will state again that it is highly possible hat the scholarship offer went with conditons of improvement or standerds that were not met, and in that case they would only be enforcing thier word.

 

Finally can you possibly accept the fact that UofL may doing Durham a favor by acknowledging that he would have a better oppritunity elsewhere? Disappointing as it might be for the young man, his future may shine brighter in other places.

 

 

While I hate it for a kid, its not the first time and will not be the last. The kid could have bailed on UL as well.

 

However, as I stated previously, if what I read is that that ol' Bobby did not call him to tell him that the scholarship was pulled, that's gutless and only reinforces the image of Bobby.

 

He and only he should have made the call to the young man.

I have 2 white kids of my own here in rural Kentucky, one is North Carolina fan, and one is a Tennessee fan. Have several white friends who are UL fans here in rural Kentucky, we always get together to have fun riding each other during UL and UK games. Not a real fair assumption Jim and this should not be a black/white issue.

 

UL did not treat this kid well with their decision, but I am sure that UK and most every other D1 school has done the same or similiar to a recruit in the past.

 

I hate it for this kid but, It is life. PERIOD.

I do not think Tom Larkey would lie about him being offered or the player for that matter. What the UL football team did in this situation was flat out wrong, and yes he is, or was a UL fan according to some friends I have from Rockastle Co.

Also Ive seen him play once this year against Bell Co and he is a player in my eyes. I just think this was a low thing for UL to do to a kid. They would be furious if this happened to one of their sons.

I have been thinking and in IMO the only 2 reasons UL would have pulled his offer were:

1. They no longer think the young man is good enough to play for them.

 

Or

 

2. He has done something they don't approve of.

 

Any other ideas. I don't think they did it just to be mean to him or hurt him.

UL's coaches should have been man enough to honor their commitment to Durham and his family. There is nothing manly about how they handled this situation.

The only possible good reason to drop the scholarship offer is if Durham is having bad grades or has gotten in trouble.

There is no good time to change your mind in a situation like this. Would you prefer they wait until signing day, and then let him know? Bad situation? Yes. Handled as well as it could be? Most likely not. Better that the truth came out now? No doubt about it...

The kid is 6-6 and 300 lbs and isnt a statue either. Obviously they had seen something in him at one time or another.

I think what they should have done is explained to him they are not pleased with his progress and then leave it up to him whether or not he wants to back out.

I just see what UL did as being absolutely wrong. And if UK or whoever else, ever does this I will feel the exact same way.
