There is no good time to change your mind in a situation like this. Would you prefer they wait until signing day, and then let him know? Bad situation? Yes. Handled as well as it could be? Most likely not. Better that the truth came out now? No doubt about it...

I would first of all like to acknowledge some of the UofL posters for at least admitting it is wrong as it was. The ones who don't admit that must be the CEO's in these high rises making all the money because LIFE IS JUST BUSINESS, I guess. I understand that perspective but the thing that is being left out in this equation is that once Brad got there, I do not and our opponents I'm sure do not feel that he would have been sitting the bench and making everyone on campus miserable. In 2 years he would have been a major contributer at a top tier school. The kid has unreal work ethic and would've made a psotive influence on everyone at UofL. Basically he wasn't even given the chance to showcase his ability upfront and personal after he was promised so.

I'm sure it is, and I appreciate that you're at least willing to hear my perspective on the topic 3, when I know that you're a little peeved over all this.

Most freshman linemen don't start automatically...he probably expected to sit the bench for the first two years, especially at Louisville.

 

If they thought he'd ride the pine for most of his career in UL, why did they waste their time and offer him in the first place?

When Louisville offered, I'm sure they didn't intend to back out later. Like I told LMB, it's not just unfair to call Louisville's coaches liars, it's borderline stupid, because there wasn't likely any deception. When they offered, they intended Durham to be a Cardinal.

 

But when they did decide, for whatever reason, that Durham and Louisville weren't the right fit, it's better in my opinion that they didn't keep him on with false hope, when he could (and will!) be a starter elsewhere.

I understand UL is your program and your trying to stick up for them, they showed no class in this situation. Hopefully UL will realize this and never do this again.

They just found someone that they wanted more for that scholarship,plain and simple.I don't buy the cop out of doing him a favor.Everyone that is on the football team does not necessarily become a starter in their career.Some are content to be back up players and be on the team and help any way they can.They like being on that certain team and don't care as much about starting.If he wanted to play for the Cards then he should have been given the opportunity.

If #3 is the reason, it's a pretty bad deal.

Louisville only has a small handful of commitments so far, it would be to early for them to begin counting scholarships and taking one to account for another. At this point in the season many coaches over offer with the understanding that a few won't make it through rather than end up short handed. For them to rescind the scholarship at this point clearly states that they don't expect him to play at Louisville.

Wow, it must be really convenient to not have to offer any facts or rational arguments. Please either address my points or don't quote my posts and call me a baseless homer, especially when I've said over and over again that this was a bad situation and U of L messed up no matter how you look at it.

With him having such a high GPA academics probably played a big role in his decision. There is a lot more to it than just being good enough to play football there. You just cant justify what UL did here.

Unless he's going into engineering or a few other programs, I'd say the majority of schools interested offer the same, if not better, education. I am guessing the fact that they are a hot program with lots of momentum and fairly close to home was the deciding factor as it is with 99.9% of the players that go through this process.

While I hate it for a kid, its not the first time and will not be the last. The kid could have bailed on UL as well.

 

However, as I stated previously, if what I read is that that ol' Bobby did not call him to tell him that the scholarship was pulled, that's gutless and only reinforces the image of Bobby.

 

He and only he should have made the call to the young man.

 

 

I disagree on that point. I think the coach who was in charge of Durham's recruiting should make the call. Not sure if that is what happened or not, but I think that is the ideal situation.

I just think its an awful thing to do and a lot of the UL fans on this board want to sweep it under the rug and act like it isnt a big deal.

If it was your son, or your family member, or a friend, or so,eome from your HS it is a big deal.
