In any case, I've made my position clear and put some points out there that I think are rational. Rational people might even read them. So I'm done helping bump this thread.

Why should he pay to go to UL, even if thats his first choice, when he could get a free ride somewhere else. As with most familys I'm sure that college tuition is no easy thing to cover.

Sure...but like I said if he wanted/wants to go bad enough he will.

I guess until you have been through the recruiting process, you don't understand the trust factor you have to have when talking to a recruiter or coach. If a team says that want you and then offer you have to believe it. When a team does this and then tells you a few months later that you aren't UL material then you have to wonder as an incoming player how good their word is. When a player backs out of their verbal many questions about loyalty and trustworthiness arise, why is it a problem to question the same thing when a school does a player wrong...

I've been through it, but had enough guidence and understood the business of the entire thing....it's a shame that Larkey doesn't.

I understood completely. Was I hurt? Sure, I wanted to go there bad.

He fit their style when they offered, how much could their style change in a couple months...I say if you are not sure about a player don't ask them to commit.

Maybe they only have room for one, and a better player is in the mix...wow...not so amazing really.

We know by now where Petrino fits. Cut and Dried.

Listen folks, it's pretty simple. UL found a player that they thought was better than Durham, and they backed out. Some people's word is worth something, and some it's not worth anything. We know by now where Petrino fits. Cut and Dried.

 

 

Why don't we be fair here. Petrino may have had miscues in the past, and he may have more in the future, but he is a brilliant coach, and has made the best decisions for his team thus far. You may not like him as a person, but he's certainly earned respect as a coach.

 

When it all comes down to it, you may not like what happend to Durham because he's an in-state kid. But, you wouldn't have pointed a finger, had a word to say, or even given two thoughts to this issue had Petrino pulled a scholly from a Florida kid, a Georgia kid or a New Jersey kid.

 

Call me a homer, but I'll keep my red-goggles on, because it looks to me like UL is headed to bigger things, and can get some of the biggest recruits.

 

I feel really bad for the kid, I really do. But another part of me is really happy that Louisville is at a point where they can look past their state borders for recruits and know they stand a realistic chance to compete with the big dogs.

 

Most of the ire I'm reading is from UK fans, and the criticism toward UL fans, the UL program is from them as well. I'm trying to believe that everyone criticizing is 100% upset only because they feel bad for Durham, but I can't shake the feeling that some are waving their hands to fan the flames further simply because they don't like UL.

Absolutley...What does it matter if they pulled the scholly? You think this doesn't happen ALL over America? Are going to call every other team in America that has pulled a scholly offer classless too??

I don't care if this kid was from Canada and they pulled his scholarship, it would still be wrong no matter what school it was. You saying that you will keep your red goggles on because UL is heading to "bigger and better things" is a lot of the reason that it is hard for UK fans to respect and support UL. Me on the other hand, I wish the best for UL and UK and any other school in Kentucky, because with more eyes on the colleges here, I think it helps recruiting from this state as well! I agree with this take. It doesn't matter if it is a kid from KY, VA or TN, it is wrong to pull the scholarship after making an offer and having the kid accept it. It is a verbal agreement between the two that should be honored by both.

 

Of course, being from KY, most folks on this board are going to be more vocal about a local boy getting the raw deal this seems to be.

 

BUT, there is one instance, as has been mentioned, where this would be warranted, and that is if there were conditions attached to the offer and the kid failed to live up to them. Whether it be academic, physical or whatever, if he failed to live up to any condition of the offer, then UL would be justified in pulling it. I have no idea if this is the case or not.
