Thank you for at least understanding the scope of this decision.

 

Look, UoL might have essentially "cut" a player in order to get someone better. I respect the idea of getting the best talent possible. BUT even the most ardent UoL fan has to understand what this means. It remains to be seen whether or not this is something that is confined to the likes of us hardcores or has wider implications accross the state.

 

Keep in mind the facts of THIS case. This young man is from rural KY. He worked hard, had the chance to join an awesome program, (and Lousville is guys, its time to embrace it and act like men) and subsequently was stabbed in the back, for lack of better anology.

 

Will this result in a statewide shift back toward the University that represents this state? I don't think anyone can answer that. I will say this, and I will say it as an obvious UK fan. Petrino is a GREAT coach. UofL fans are so lucky to have a guy who flat understands the game as he does. But IMO, no program can risk the being labeled as a canibilizing program who will turn their back on their own recruits if someone "supposedly better" comes along.

 

IMO, this is a bigger issue than "This is just business guys"

 

Especially with in state kids, we are not talking about 23, 24 olds entering the business world. We are talking about teenagers making a promise to a team, in hopes of being a part of that team.

 

I will listen to any argument made with an open mind, but comon guys, this is NOT GOOD for Louisville instate!

Let's be honest. If UL stays in the title hunt, the whole situation changes. It's unfortunate for one kid. I just watched 20 people get fired (most of them young) for a lot of the same reasons. That's entertainment as we know it...

Said he chose UL over UK so I just put 2-2 together

We've seen this before with other players and there's been more to the story. Have you got a link to where you obtained this information?

I agree. I also hope that if it true, the young man is given an opportunity to go to school somewhere and showcase his talents and obtain his degree.

Tough situation to put a 17 or 18 year old kid in. I couldn't begin to imagine the emotions he is going through.

If it was Clemson in UL's spot, there would be SC kids let down. It's ugly, but it's life when you make a jump like UL is trying to pull...

I don't see that as needed. The Florida Everglades that is the Rock field in November says enough...

Tell me this doesn't leave a sour taste in Kentucky High School Coaches and players mouth. Maybe this signals UoL is bigger than their home state. Louisville kids will undoutedly continue to have faith, but gosh, this has some effect does it not?

 

If you are a Coach of a program who typically does not produce D1 talent, do you not have a DUTY to mention to your player (17 or 18 years old and parents) that UoL has shown they are unwilling to honor their offers?

I heard this at age 13 from a very wise civics teacher in the Pike Co system by the name of Roger Varney.

 

Louisville SHOULD and IMO will have to explain this EVERY time they recruit an instate kid!

I think it's a fair concern, and something UL will have to deal with no doubt. But it's not like EKY has been a UL force in where they are. I'd love to see Durham at UC, so that should tell you what I know of his talent. I just think UL in August and UL now is a rare situation. The ink starts getting wet Wednesday...

I realize your a UC fan. Sorry to attack you. I don't think you disagree that in the most fundamental respect this hurts UoL.

 

This is an indictment on fairness. I guess UC and UK are both beneficiaries of this poor judgement by UoL. Ultimately, I guess I just disagree that this is akin to a "business decision"

 

I understand Petrino's dilema. I won't pretend to think it is insignificant, but I will go on record to say "this wasn't done right"

 

Eastern KY is NOT a hotbed of talent for UK, UoL, Cincy, etc.

 

This is something more fundamental IMO. I think Petrino made an error.

 

Tape? This kid didn't show good things on tape? WOW. I hope he grows into a beast in a UK (or for you Gametime, a UC) uniform.
