I don't exactly think it's great of Petrino to pull the offer, if for no other reason than it's an in-state kid. But some of these posts are overboard.

 

For everyone saying that this shows how much more class Brooks has than Petrino, you might want to keep in mind that the top recruits in the nation haven't exactly been beating a path to Lexington. Brooks hasn't had any temptation to pull an offer for a better kid.

This act--committed by either school is pretty hard to defend, taking the opportunity to use the discussion of it to take a swipe at UK's program is one reason a lot of the UL fans get such a bad rap for their attitude. I wasn't taking a swipe at Kentcucky, I was telling people not to be so quick on the draw about taking swipes at Louisville. Go back and read my post, and I think you'll see that.

Pitrino is a thug his team is full of Thugs, he has a I'll do anything to win attitude, mark my word Loueyvull will fall hard here in a couple years. Its a classless act to pull an offer after its been made and Durham should thank his lucky stars now instead of finding out later after he's wasted half his career up there in that cess pool.

 

I hope he finds a team he wants to play for that needs him and wants him he'd sure look great in Blue.

Brooks has had some great recruiting, especially in state last year with Johnson and getting some out of Georgia. But you can't deny that he's just not in the mix for the number of top-level kids that Petrino is on this year. So you can't compare the two. That's all I was saying.

I agree this is a sad situation and it seems wrong to me on face value. But I know that Louisville has honored a few schollys to local kids that maybe they should have not offered talent wise. They should do homework before hand not after the fact. But this is a top ten Football program and unfortunately stuff like this happens. It is sad though and I hate it for Rockcastle and the kids family but if he is a good player he will rise to the top so I am sure he will be ok.

Very true. Knowing the fickle world of college recruiting, Chris was afraid that UK would pull their offer due to his injury. Offer letters almost always contain the verbiage "upon successful completion of your senior year in academics and athletics", giving them an out. However, Brooks and his staff told Chris that since he had already committed to them, they were going to honor their committment to him. That told me a great deal about the ethics of Brooks and his staff.

UK has said they will honor Duran Jefferson's scholarship after his season ended with a broken leg.

I'm glad they will, but it's not exactly a career ending injury, right?

 

Neither was Cessna's, whose injury was a setback but he was still ready to go by October, and enroll in January.

Brooks had an offer on the table for the Slusher kid who verballed to Auburn and he was considering UK, then UK backed away from the table. Not the same as the kid verbaling then pulling. Just a point that a nationally ranked in-state kid had a chance for UK but UK backed away.

 

In the end, this is not good business with the high school coaches in the state of Kentucky to jack around a kid like they have seemingly done so.

They had the offer, he committed, then UL splits. If he wasnt good enough they shouldnt have offered.

Im not going down the who has class and whatnot, because right now the playing field is not level between the two major universities in the state of Kentucky.

No, but in a year in which they only have a handful of scholarships to give out, they could easily move on and find a potentially better replacement.

No debate there, although you have to say that if he was just going to be buried on the depth chart its better for everyone. It's not like Louisville was his only chance to play ball.

Not necessarily...in the end it is all about honoring the committment.

 

No doubt UL's national lure is greater than UK, but UL if they are indeed a perennial top 15 team, should be able to pick and choose their kids. There is no need to go and jerk around a kid who was good enough to play there this summer, but not now.

How I believe it went down, is that Durham was going to verbal early to someone. UL had some stakes in the fire for some kids. They decided to get Durham while he was hot and still recruit his spot. Then maybe they got some positive movement on some other highly thought prospects, and decided to cut bait with Durham. So they did. The only thing that Durham is guilty of is accepting an offer to play football at UL. UL decided to go elsewhere after he was deemed not their type of player that they were looking for.

Heck Durham could end up at Baylor or Cincinnati...it is not a UK and UL squabble.

However, it would not surprise me to see other teams use this as a tool to persuade kids away from Louisville.
