I am the furthest thing from a Louisville fan that you can possibly be. However, we need to not forget that college football is a buisness. The payment in that buisness is the scholarship the player recieves. Obviously, U of L seen something they didn't like and yanked their offer of payment. Lets face the fact, in college, the kids are their for the program, not the other way around. This is a buisness descision. We will see if it panned out for them once this young man is deeper into his career.:thumb:

 

They also must of seen something in the first place for them to offer. JMO, Is this just a way to put a player on hold to make sure no one else gets him while their still looking. You can bet that they have already got other options for this player or it would not have ever happened.

Do I think this is classless? Yes, but it will not stop me from rooting for Lville Football. It may make me think a little less of the coaching staff. What I think about the staff does not effect how I feel about the team.

I want nothing but the best for any Ky kid. But, at the same token, it seems pretty easy for lots of folks to thrash the decision by UofL, whether it be right or wrong.

 

I guarantee you if UK was the school who cut him loose, whether justified or not, nobody would say word one.

 

I don't thinks that's necessarily true Jim. The UK fans were all over Tubby for not offering Chris Lofton a scholarship--let alone pulling it. They also bashed Bill Curry over not offering Shaun Alexander and Rick Pitino when he basically just released Rod Rhodes. Rhodes wasn't a Ky boy but he as treated pretty badly. I don't think people are upset that it was U or L as much as the fact that it was a Kentucky kid and it wasn't that he doesn't have time to find another school--just the fact that he's in the middle of trying to get ready for the playoffs. Whether it was UL, UK ND, USC or whoever they shouldn't have offered unless they were sure they wanted him and the could have waited another week or two if they were going to pull the offer when his season was over. This one will cause them to lose some credability in state--as it should.

I understand the feeling that it is classless, but, there are a lot of classless moves made in buisness every day.

A kid can commit to a school and keep his options open and end up never signing with a school that offered a scholarship. Should the same period between a time a school offers a kid and the committments can be formalized (February) be considered a sort of "at will" period for both sides?

True, but in business, if you want to stay in business, you have to be known as honorable, and true to your word, and if you're not, you won't be successful in business very long. IMO, this was a very poor business decision, and will negatively affect in-state recruiting for UL in the near future.

I can understand a school backing off of a kid if they think they made a quick offer, but not if he is already committed to them.

 

Durham verbally committed months ago and for a team to do this is sending the wrong message to recruits whether in-state or out of state. I just think this looks bad to future recruits because Petrino could pull your offer at any time if someone "better" comes along.

Absolutley...What does it matter if they pulled the scholly? You think this doesn't happen ALL over America? Are going to call every other team in America that has pulled a scholly offer classless too??

 

Yes! Unless there is some unforseen circumstance (grades & legal) then honor the scholarship!

 

When my son committed to his school the

coach told him, it was a dead solid deal and they would honor the offer no matter what happened after his committment, as long as he continued to make the grades and test scores and stayed out of trouble.

 

If a college team has doubts, then don't offer.

 

Having gone thru the entire process of recruiting as a parent and as a coach, I have to say that it is a ruthless business, but the teams that keep their word are the ones that will eventually win out. Honesty and Integrety will eventually win over lies and deceit.

By the way I noticed when the Cessna kid was injured in his senior year at North Laurel Brooks honored his commitment and this boy couldn't even play.

Very true. Knowing the fickle world of college recruiting, Chris was afraid that UK would pull their offer due to his injury. Offer letters almost always contain the verbiage "upon successful completion of your senior year in academics and athletics", giving them an out. However, Brooks and his staff told Chris that since he had already committed to them, they were going to honor their committment to him. That told me a great deal about the ethics of Brooks and his staff.

Pitrino is a thug his team is full of Thugs, he has a I'll do anything to win attitude, mark my word Loueyvull will fall hard here in a couple years. Its a classless act to pull an offer after its been made and Durham should thank his lucky stars now instead of finding out later after he's wasted half his career up there in that cess pool.

 

I hope he finds a team he wants to play for that needs him and wants him he'd sure look great in Blue.

 

While I don't think Petrino is the most ethical of coaches, I would NEVER characterize his team as being full of 'thugs'. I think that is painting them with a broad brush that doesn't apply.

This thread has some of the best homerism that I have ever seen. I thought that there was an age limit for members on this board. It seems that on both sides of the argument there are some 5 year olds at the keyboard.

And to think I bothered to congratulate UK on their big win over UGA. Never again. Heck, they might've done somebody wrong on the way to getting that precious win.
