Why should he pay to go to UL, even if thats his first choice, when he could get a free ride somewhere else. As with most familys I'm sure that college tuition is no easy thing to cover.

Cave into Pressure??? He probably wanted to come to UL because it was a top 25 team that was close to home. And by committing early he could get it out of the way and focus on the upcoming season. Also whenever a player commits somewhere other coaches will take the kid off of their list and move onto another player. I feel bad for the kid. Im not a UK fan or a UL fan and if I had heard this happened anywhere else to any other kid I would feel the same way.

I can understand wanting to focus on the upcoming season, but could he have just said, "Hey, I want to focus on the upcoming season. I'll make my decision after my team wins state"? There are a ton of players offered early who don't commit until after their seasons end, many not until signing day. If it were my son, I wouldn't advise comitting so early. One never knows what will happen throughout the season. What if he had a MONSTER year and his recruiting potential becomes even greater? Of course, you can say that he can always back out of his verbal agreement, but then how is that different from UL withdrawing their offer?

If a team says that want you and then offer you have to believe it. When a team does this and then tells you a few months later that you aren't UL material then you have to wonder as an incoming player how good their word is. When a player backs out of their verbal many questions about loyalty and trustworthiness arise, why is it a problem to question the same thing when a school does a player wrong...

To be honest, I don't expect the player or his HS coach to mention what UL said specifically, because it could hurt his recruiting to other schools. On the flip side, I think it's nice that UL has kept mum about their reasons, thereby not causing any detrimental influence on any potential recruiting situations either.

Louisville recruits way over their scholarship limit, just like everyone. However, I think THIS early in the recruiting year, that's unlikely. Louisville still has lots of open slots, in part because they do the meat of their recruiting late.

I'm trying to keep this on an even keel here. I've already said I thought it was a bad move, I personally think Durham is going to be a heck of a player for somebody and I was excited when I thought it was going to be Louisville.

 

On the other hand, I don't think that it's a case of Petrino growing tentacles and being a monster as some would like to think. There are LEGITIMATE possible reasons for this. And there are arguments against the 'common sense' answer that Petrino just wanted to give the schollly to a better player. For one, it wouldn't be of that position. The Cards don't have a lot of linemen on the hook, let alone linemen of Durham's caliber. For two, the Cards have quite a few of their 25 scholarships open at this point.
