Jimbo Fisher Facemask Grab

Featured Replies

Because something like this was acceptable in the good ‘ol days doesn’t make it right. This is not a good look for Jimbo. If I were a parent of a recruit trying to make a decision where my son played and I was leaning toward Jimbo and A&M seeing something like this onTV would un-lean me in a second.

Same thing for basketball. There’s other ways for a coach to get his point across without putting his hands on his players. It got Sean Woods several games suspension when he was coaching basketball at Morehead State.

It has never effected his recruiting. Check his classes at FSU.

Is grabbing the face mask of a player the same as putting your hands on a player? I’m genuinely confused by this whole thing because I feel like I should be outraged, but I’m not because this looks harmless to me.

It’s completely harmless.

That’s where I’m leaning. I’m just trying to get some explanation from the people that say it’s wrong.

It’s dumb. And dumb football is the only place where stuff like this would even be remotely considered acceptable.

If another man ever put his hands on me or talked to me like that when I was 20, he’d have gotten a lot more than a meek “Yes sir” in response, which I’m sure is what he expects.

Back when Bill Curry did this at Georgia Tech to straighten out a smart alec player who didn't want to be lectured by Curry and turned away so Curry grabbed his face mask and jerked him back, Curry was praised almost universally for not tolerating such arrogance and disrespect from a player. I'm thinking if you are opposed for such discipline actions, football probably is not your sport. Happened to us in grade school when being jerks. Pretty sure Lampley used such tactics and would not be surprised if Beatty does too. Never had a problem with it then, don't now.

Jimbo's got his juices flowing at A&M sounds like.

I’m still not sure what is supposed to be wrong with this?

Not optimal. Coaches should try to avoid.

This incident - "5 yd penalty for me, not 15." Quick grab, let's loose, didn't shake him or lead him around by the facemask (which we've all seen). If the kid is OK with it, which he is, I'm less concerned.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

What would happen if the player smacked Jimbos hand off?

Is there a difference between grabbing a face mask and smacking someone’s hand? I think there is. I’m having a hard time seeing the issue. I’m willing to be persuaded as to why I should be mad at Jimbo for this, but so far that hasn’t happened.

My guess here is, that the overwhelming majority of those with a problem with this either didn’t play HS/College ball or played maybe a year of high school ball. No story here. He didn’t yank him around. Just grabbed it and yelled at him. No big deal.

I can't understand why people want to act like this was some kind of abuse or something. It's a really soft take IMO.
