Jimbo Fisher Facemask Grab

Featured Replies

Your not listening. Fault has nothing to do with it. Who wins if the kid reacts negatively? What is the positive in grabbing the players face mask? Does it out weigh the negative of what could happen.

I don't have an issue with what Jimbo did, but this is a fair question. What happens with the kid when he retaliates and knocks out his football coach? I think we all know what happens.

The positive is pretty obvious isn’t it? To get the kid quit acting like a fool and not get in a fight on the field. If the kid reacts in a negative way to a simple grab of the facemask by his coach telling him to stop being an idiot, then he probably shouldn’t play football.

Yep. If you put your hands on another person, you better be prepared and willing to accept that that person could react in a defensive manner (and well within their rights IMO).

So by this logic are you ok with kids trying to fight their parents when they get spanked?

Grabbing a face mask isn’t assault. I don’t know why some are thinking the kid would be within his right to start swinging.

I made it clear in multiple posts in here that I was speaking of an adult laying their hands on another adult.

You’re acting like he assaulted the kid. He grabbed his facemask.

Did you play high school football?

What are you talking about? I’ve said multiple times it’s not a big deal.

I personally don’t think an adult should put his hands on another adult.

Nope, school didn’t have a team. Wouldn’t have been allowed even if they did. That matters why?

Just verifying my theory that the ones who find this wrong or offensive didn’t play high school/college ball. No need to get defensive.

It’s not ok. It’s a person of power exerting a form of physical control over another person. Would it be ok if your boss grabbed you by the tie and tugged you in close to get your attention or to reprimand you? I’ll never understand why we accept these forms of physical intimidation in sports, but never would in everyday society. I’ve coached and played football for over 35 years. And as a coach you don’t need to be physically or verbally abusive to get your point across.

What are your experiences in playing football?

Because...machoism.

Coached and played for 35 years. Was an all state football player in high school and I’ve coached at all levels from youth to high school. I’ve never grabbed a face mask or had mine grabbed by a coach for the purpose of getting someone’s attention. I have committed several facemask penalties.

Yeah, this is where I sit. What would've happened if that scenario plays out. That player would be labeled as a problem child. And that simply ain't fair to the player.

For those that didn’t play, a coach is many things. Teacher, mentor, role model, friend as well as a father figure. And with a father figure, they sometimes have to be a disciplinarian. This was a coach being the disciplinarian, getting in the kids face and letting him know that he screwed up. Not like he smoked him with a leather belt.

Quite the resume...if all that’s true, then I’m gonna say you’re in the rarest of air...
