Jimbo Fisher Facemask Grab

Featured Replies

Is there a difference between grabbing a face mask and smacking someone’s hand? I think there is. I’m having a hard time seeing the issue. I’m willing to be persuaded as to why I should be mad at Jimbo for this, but so far that hasn’t happened.

I don't think what Jimbo did here is a big deal. He did jerk his head a little but not a ton. That said you can't put your hands on players in this day and age. Too many bad things can happen.

For those who are saying this hands on discipline approach is acceptable why is it unacceptable in other sports, particularly basketball? As I’ve already mentioned, it got Sean Woods suspended for a few games and he had to apologize.

Because baketball players don't have face masks. It's not like he grabbed him by the throat.

Because this is a dumb football thing.

I get the whole no big deal side of this. I do. The player doesn't seem to care, so non-issue. But what would people think if the player had shoved him off him? Would we be crucifying the player?

JMO, but a grown adult should NEVER put their hands on another adult in an aggressive manner. Exceptions being self-defense or attempting to break up a fight.

So it’s more of an optics perspective as opposed to actually doing something wrong. Now this I understand. From an optics perspective I would agree Jimbo shouldn’t have done this.

For one thing other sports don’t wear face masks except for Lacrosse and Hockey.

It seems to be an issue because Jimbo has an authority over the player. If the player pushed him back he would 100% be looked at as selfish and uncoachable. But let’s put them on equal footing and say a fellow player grabbed the players facemask to tell him the same thing Jimbo did. Is that a problem? It’s still 2 adults. It seems to me the problem isn’t with the act itself but rather someone with authority doing the act.

Or because everyone is so hypersensitive and melodramatic these days.

If an unscientific study was done in this thread, I would say most of the people who have no issue with Jimbo are age 35 and above. I would say almost all of those who disapprove are under 35.

I am part of the former and as long as it's an isolated incident, I have no problem with it. If it becomes a pattern, then it is a news story.

Sounds about right.

I may be an outlier but I’m under 35 and I don’t have an issue with it. I’m waiting to be convinced I should be outraged, but it hasn’t happened yet.

I’m under 35 and am completely ok with it.

I'm 43 and think Jimbo and all coaches need to keep their hands off the players. Again, I'm not outraged by what Jimbo did but smart enough to understand only bad things can happen from it.
