Jimbo Fisher Facemask Grab

Featured Replies

I'm 43 and think Jimbo and all coaches need to keep their hands off the players. Again, I'm not outraged by what Jimbo did but smart enough to understand only bad things can happen from it.

Because people blow this stuff so out of proportion anymore. This sort of thing used to be rather common and no one got butt hurt over it.

Exactly. It's not a big deal, the player was cool with it, so move on. I am intrigued that so many people think it's acceptable for a grown adult to put their hands on another grown adult though.

Just because it was common doesn't mean it was right or acceptable.

While I get what you're saying, doesn't exactly make it wrong either. He grabbed his face mask to get his attention, that's not exactly abuse yet people want to pretend it is. I think people are just way too over-sensitive about things like this anymore. You and I will disagree on this, and that's okay. I just think it's odd to be bothered buy something like that in a sport as rough as football.

I get that. It's not a big deal, and I never claimed it was abuse or anything close.

My thought process says if Fisher's actions are acceptable, it would be equally as acceptable had the player shoved him away. We all know how that would've played out.

Agreed.

Other than it being 2018, what is wrong with Fisher grabbing the face mask? He never put the kid in danger, he grabbed his attention, and he reset the kid’s mind to the objective at hand which is to not do anything stupid that could cost his team a football game. When I hear “put his hands” on someone I hear a violent act such as a push, punch, slap, etc. something done with the objective of causing physical harm. That was clearly not the case with this. Unless someone tells me why it was wrong to grab the players facemask besides the fact that it, “looks bad”, I’m going to stick with the idea that there is nothing wrong with this.

What if the next kid he grabs reacts differently? That's my point. Only bad comes from a coach grabbing a players face mask. If Jimbo can't get the players attention in another manner then maybe Jimbo needs to find a different line of work.

So if Jimbo grabs a kids facemask because he tried to get into a fight on the field then that kid gets into a fight with Jimbo, this would be Jimbos fault? If a kid reacts differently, then that kid has his own issues. The kids reaction has nothing to do with Jimbo being right or wrong.

Yep. If you put your hands on another person, you better be prepared and willing to accept that that person could react in a defensive manner (and well within their rights IMO).

Jimbo probably knows whose face mask he can grab without any reaction from the player, and whose he can't.

Your not listening. Fault has nothing to do with it. Who wins if the kid reacts negatively? What is the positive in grabbing the players face mask? Does it out weigh the negative of what could happen.

And that could easily change in the middle of a game with the player in an amp'ed emotional state.

Imagine if Saban grabbed that kids mask who tried to go after a coach last bowl season, yikes.

As usual, in this everyone is a victim world, this is over blown. Obviously, Fisher grabbed his players facemask. Fisher did not jerk or swing the kids head back and forth or hurt him in any way, other than his ego and that needed it.. A coach just was getting a kids attention / giving an attitude adjustment, etc..
