August 13, 20188 yr 8 or 9 straight one putts helped. I was getting ready to say. Putting was far from his problem yesterday. He hits half of his drives in the fairway and he wins going away yesterday.
August 13, 20188 yr Tiger played so well and nearly pulled out the win that it stole some of the thunder from Brooks’ third major win. The aftermath discussions on the Golf Channel were more about Tiger than Brooks.
August 13, 20188 yr I wonder how things might have changed if everything remains the same but Tiger’s putt drops on 11. I was having Caddyshack vibes, expecting explosions to get that ball to drop in. How would Brooks have reacted on 18 knowing he had only a one shot lead as compared to two?

August 13, 20188 yr Nothing would have changed with Brooks. The idea that any of these young guys would have wilted because it is Tiger chasing them is a fallacy to I’m not talking about because it is Tiger. I’m taking about the difference between playing the last hole knowing you have two shots in hand. The pressure is completely different.
August 13, 20188 yr Golf is so much better with Tiger back. The Ryder Cup should be as good as any before as both teams are just loaded. Tiger's putt on 1 HAD to go in but somehow leaked a little left at the hole when it had to go right. His putt on 11 somehow stopped less than a millimeter from going in. Those two putts on Sunday and the fact that he could not make a putt on the back nine Saturday (including a horrendous three putt on seventeen) is what cost him. I was shocked that he did not hit 3 wood at all on Sunday...either hit driver or iron off the tee. I guess the holes were either so long that he felt he needed to hit driver or short enough that iron was enough. I just remember him hitting 3 wood a lot and usually pretty straight. It is literally a miracle that he is where he is now compared to a year ago...I just hope the back continues to hold up...next year's majors should be awesome. Three of the four are on courses that Tiger loves (Augusta, Bethpage Park, and Pebble Beach)...

I mean usually when you have a 2 shot lead on everyone in the clubhouse and a 3 shot lead on your playing partner you aren’t pulling Driver on 18. These guys have zero fear. They don’t feel pressure.

If Tiger is going to win another major (and count me as someone who thinks he will) it’s going to be next year. Tiger has Home field advantage in 3 of the 4 tournaments next year. If he’s being honest with himself, 2018 wasn’t about winning anything it was solely about getting in shape and being able to be playing at a high level come 2019 because it should be Tigers year.
August 13, 20188 yr Count me as one who thinks Tiger will win another major. However...............He is battling a larger group of players with exceptional skill levels. He is one against a bunch of guys who can really play. Any of these guys can get hot in a given tournament. Earlier in his career, he was the most fit golfer on the tour. Now, EVERYBODY is fit. Everybody has "young confidence and mental fortitude". The remainder of 2018 and 2019 should be very interesting.

That’s the biggest difference between Tiger now and Tiger then. He can’t win majors with his B game anymore. Nobody on tour can win majors with their b game.
August 14, 20188 yr I mean usually when you have a 2 shot lead on everyone in the clubhouse and a 3 shot lead on your playing partner you aren’t pulling Driver on 18. These guys have zero fear. They don’t feel pressure. Of course they feel pressure. It's non sense to say otherwise. We've seen these young guys have some bad moments in majors under pressure. The pressure seemed to get to Thomas on Sunday. Fowler crumbles to the pressure every major it seems.

Nobody on tour can win majors with their b game. Koepka played as good as he ever has and Tiger couldn't find a fairway with a Garmin. Tiger almost pulled it off. Tiger's A game is still better than anyone else.

August 14, 20188 yr I think many are minimizing what Koepka did and who he is since he is not a household name. Dude is a mentally tough bulldog. He knew exactly what Tiger was doing and matched him. Koepka has won three of the past six majors he has played in. Don't forget Koepka is coming off a four-month recovery from a major wrist injury that sidelined him to start the season through this year's Masters.
