I guess it took a winning season by Campbell Co to bring out the Camel haters All Tell, LSURock, The Scribe, and LCRW.

 

 

 

:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: First of all if you're going to call me out, at least get the name correct. Secondly what possible reason would I have to hate anyone, much less Campbell Co. I'm from Ashland, Ky. I belive the last time Ashland played Campbell Co. was my Junior year way back in 1982, and we beat them rather easily in a playoff game. If a PA announcer does play by play during the game, it's wrong. I don't care what school he represents. If Ashland's PA man was doing it, I would say the same thing.

When is the last time you played against Campbell Co. As a player last year I can tell you that he EFFECTS the game. On the field you have no idea what the fans are saying, but the PA can clearly be heard by all. While Campbell is on defense he routinely calls play by play which is a joke. And as far as it being an "accident" that he calls out plays, that is the most rediculous excuse I've ever heard. So if an ofensive tackle holds someone can he just say he made a mistake and move on? Or how about if there is a play action and a defensive player is told that it is a pass and the defensive player rushes the QB and not the RB and causes the QB to fumble, is that just a mistake. "Oops I droped the ball it was an accident. Can I have it back?"

 

No i didnt play against campbell i played for them. So i can assure you that you can not hear the PA at all. Well unless your on the sideline not playing and not paying attention hmm. It dose not effect the game, if the PA dose say something you are not listening for it, lol especially if your out in the game running around. Come on now, give it a rest. Mr. Rose dose a great job.

My bad on the penalty, but have any of you ever been on the opposing sideline? I have been on that sideline and you can hear the announcer, and he has called play by play. I think what he does before and after the play is great, I really do, and like I said before, I am a supporter of what is going on in Campbell County.

The better question to settle this silly debate is what is the rule. Plain and simple. Is he breaking the rule or not? If he is, where is the officiating crew? If he is not, what is this all about?

I'm stating my opinion that public address announcers shouldn't call play by play over the PA. I'm not singling out anyone or any school. I've never been to a Campbell County game. If he's not doing play by play, then so be it. But any PA announcer from any school shouldn't do this.

 

Is there a rule? Not that I know of. Just like there isn't a specific rule saying the band can't play during a live ball. (I've seen this)

 

No specific rule that says cheerleaders must kneel when a player is injured instead of leading cheers for the other team. (Seen this one too)

 

No specific rule that says PA announcers should be allowed to verbally agree or disagree with a flag (Seen this one also).

 

I've never said it was against the rules. I just don't think it should be allowed. Who has the power to enforce this? The football coach and AD.

Well first of all, I think it is funny that you are taking a shot at the backups, thats a great thing to say. I played, but not both ways, and not every special teams situation, which therefore means that I was on the sidelines during the game, and yes I was paying attention and I had a man telling me what I was seeing as it unfolded through the speakers.

As someone who played at CCHS, I neve once heard the announcer during a game. Never ever. Not at home, not on the road. If you are on the field (not the sideline) you can't let something like an announcer distract you.

 

I haven't heard the announcer so I'm not going to talk about how bad or good he is until I hear for myself (which I might not). He sounds entertaining and combined with Bob Klines(Basketball), CCHS has to have the most animated announcers in the state.

 

I never once heard what an announcer had to say, but I heard that cannon in Ft. Thomas over and over again one night and if the announcer can't cheer, root, be loud and vocal, than that thing shouldn't be allowed either.

But on the field you can't listen to him and react. I'd think that reading keys on defense and using your eyes is much (a million times) better than listening to the PA guy for the play.

I know that winning is a relatively new thing in Campbell Co., but IMO there is no place for such announcing over the PA. You don't see the announcers at Ohio State, Florida, or even programs with CLASS like Trinity, X, etc. doing such things. Why? Because its not part of the game, nor should it be. If you want someone to fire up the crowd, hire some cheerleaders. But as far as announcing goes, the announcer should announce the game. And that's it. Who did what, ball position, down distance. There should be no opinion or favoritism involved. Someone said earlier that it was just the teams that have lost to Campbell Co. that were complaining. Well speaking as a representative of a team that beat the Camels, it is not OK. If you want to add some color to your commentary I hear GT and the crew are looking for a few good men!

He is not a class act towards the opposition, and not conducting himself the way I believe one should in a sporting event when representing an organization. It usually sounds more like an And1 tournament. It is not a pleasant experience to sit thru his games. It's reminds me more like a historians rewriting history to follow their view point on the events, not a simple assesment. I know the type of retterect I will hear when I go to a Camels game. I block him out and ignore him as much as possible. I've been going to games at the middleschool since when it was a high school. I have never sat thru a game that he was like the average announcer. I have never considered him a hoot, more of a............. For the most part he is tolerable. But I have sat thru more than one game that I'd have rather gone to see a dentist than listen to him.

Again you guys are wrong.Unless you (sandman) came to see the Camels play someone else,which I doubt you have, you have not heard Greg. They played Dixie away last year and Greg just started doing the PA. a little over a year ago! I don"t know who you are thinking of because you couldn't even hear the last guy.AGAIN GREG DOES NOT DO PLAY BY PLAY ON THE PA.

I don't think there is anything wrong with adding a little personality to the PA Booth... trust me... there is one school in particular where you just wish you can hear the guy say who made the tackle or who carried the ball. I won't mention any names. I think you have to be very descriptive when announcing and you have to be quick.

 

You cannot give play by play when the guy is running around right end....After the tackle...then you might say...#12 Shanahan on a carry around the right side picks up about 4.....tackle on the play by #55 Smith.

 

But to say...."#12 takes the pitch, dodges a would be tackler, re-groups...turns to the left and sprints to the pylon......that is a little too much.

 

I have done a couple of pee wee games and I only do it so I can name as many kids as possible who get in on the play. The parents love to hear their kids' names called and so do the kids. You have no clue what Huge smiles it brings to their faces.

If something is wrong with that,then they need to get rid of cannons ,bells and fireworks.

I think it's hilarious that some of the Camel faithful keep bringing up the cannon and other such things in this discussion. I don't know if this guy does what's being alleged or not; but if so, there's no comparison. Interfering with gameplay and influencing the result of play is completely different from post-play celebrations.
