Campbell County Public Address...

Featured Replies

Does anyone else get a kick out of the public address announcer at Campbell? I thought he was a riot but I can see why the visitors may not think so.

Anyone?

I remember him being very loud as an opponent I could do without, leave that stuff for the NBA.

his name is Greg Rose

Mr. Greg Rose - Former player, has a son on the team.

One man coach, cheerleader, homer, official, and defensive coordinator.

You've got to love him. He adds a lot of excitement to the game and is worth the price of admission to listen describe the play by play or sometimes upcoming plays.

Sometimes opposition fans take him tooooo seriously. Last year when I was broadcasting Camels games using the press box TWICE opposition fans tried to storm us and confront him. Fortunately, he is well insulated.

My kind of PA announcer - brings a lot to the game!!! :thumb:

Are you brodcasting any games this year Mustang?

He can very distracting to the opposing teams players, but he effects the players parents more than the actual players IMO.

Well, I was fishing at the Alexandria Lake (the Reservoir) and I could hear him plain as day from there. The wind was helping out a bit I think. Fishing wasn't that great, landed one catfish, not great size, not really worth freezing over too.

Actually I take back my comment. I began thinking about it and he effects the play on the field much more than I remembered. To point out an example one play last year immediately after the quarterback faked it to the running back he proclaimed "here's a pass..." and no one was fooled by the run fake. Its kind of hard to bite on anything when the PA announcer tells the players whats happening.

I thought it was against the rules to announce anything during game play. I was at a game tonight and as the announcer was saying something he stopped talking until the play was over, summed up the play, then continued talking. I guess the Campbell guy is above the law though...

In order to be able to follow the rules, you have to know them and do you think anyone involved in the athletic program would actually sit down with Mr. PA and go over what they say in the handbook. Do they even know there is a handbook? Mr. Rose cares about the program there is no question about that. Keep up the great job!

I've never had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Rose. But if his comments exceed telling the name of the ball carrier, tackler and down and distance etc. he is being excessive. There is one sure way for opponents to quiet him however. I'm sure his witty repartee would dry up a bit if his beloved team were getting blown off the field. There is no place for this junk in sports.

He actually received a penalty against the team in a game last year, don't remember which one. Also, he is definately having an effect on the game. I remember a game last year that was in the closing when a QB decided to run with the ball and the announcer didn't wait until the play was over, but instead yelled it out as soon as the QB tucked the ball and the defense instantly turned around from covering receivers and went after the QB.

No room for that. Tell who carried or caught, where they are, and what down it brings up. Tell the penalty. Don't be talking when the ball is snapped. I agree with LSURock on this one...

As a regular at Campbell County and reading this, I see posters starting to make things up. A flag last year? Better name the game because it didn't happen. As for LSURock as for junk in sports, great, look forward to not hearing any overboard rock propaganda, etc. at a home game! He makes a neat deal out of great plays after it is done. He cheers the touchdown and the first down, what is wrong with that. And if any posters have problems with it, start taking it to Ft. Thomas with the cannon, many places with the bell, some with fireworks and not to mention radio announcers who are guilty as sin. He points out the visiting team success with first down and POINTS OUT the Camel first down. If your team does not do that at your home game go talk to your lazy sports directors and make them do better.

I don't remember the game for sure but I think it was the Scott game, this is what I was told the week after when I was there watching a game. But, I think you missed the point. He is calling out plays as they unfold, not waiting until the play ends like you are supposed to. You don't even have that crap in pro-sports, and you shouldn't have it in high school. Let the players play, don't call out the plays so they know what is going on.

If this is all he does then I have no problem with it, but if he does as some others have mentioned such as tell who has the ball during the play then that is out of line.
