October 15, 200619 yr "It's about scoring runs and preventing runs. The defense has to get better." I have to agree with this statement, just look at the Tigers.:thumb:
October 15, 200619 yr The Tigers team is suited to their mammoth ballpark. The Reds have to structure a team that can take advantage of 81 games in a hitter-friendly ballpark. I'm all for a Dunn-for-pitching trade. However, I think many of us are overestimating what type of pitching will come in a trade. So, can we use the $10.5M to get strong pitching? Who is on the FA market? Barry Zito, Jason Schmidt. Or you could take the money you were going to spend on Dunn, and go after Miguel Tejada.
October 15, 200619 yr I agree that trading Dunn is not a remedy for all that needs fixing for the Reds, but if you can shore up two or three of your problem areas, such as defensive play and better pitching, and take the 11 million dollars you were going to spend on Dunn and spend it on more pitching, then it might not be a bad idea. As far as power goes, I think the Tigers have shown it is overrated.I'm with you my friend....:thumb: Areas the Reds need to fix. I believe Dunn can certainly reduce the K's but the Reds, desperately need starting pitching.
October 16, 200619 yr Author Lancaster... UPDATE: Wayne Krivsky says Gil has enough arm to play third base, center field or right field, though his natural position is shortstop. As for his bat: "He’s obviously got some power," said Krivsky. "He strikes out a little too much and doesn’t walk quite enough. But he’s got a lot of ability and tools. We like the package and thought it was worthwhile to go ahead and do it."
October 16, 200619 yr I agree that the Reds need to do something with Dunn. But in 10 years will we look back and say how could they trade away a guy who hit 500 or 600 homers?? Just a question.
October 17, 200619 yr Author The Reds have added right-hander Brad Salmon to the 40-man roster. That gives them 39 guys on the roster, not including five still officially on the 60-day DL -- Claussen, Guardado, Mercker, Ramirez and Wilson.
October 17, 200619 yr They need to keep Dunn but make sure that there is not a no-trade clause in his contract. The Reds need to keep him and then deal him to someone that is contending and need hitters at the trade deadline. There were plenty of teams that will want to add a 60 HR bat to their line up, especially a AL team that can stick him at his natural defensive position....the bench.

You tend to get a lot less from trades at the deadline because of the rush to get them completed...
October 24, 200619 yr hssb's boy Aaron Herr opted for free agency... That's too bad, I liked him. I wonder what he saw that he didn't like?
