I'm curious, why does everyone feel so very invested in this? Very few of these kids are counting on their play to ensure a college education/future. Yes I played (hs - no I wasn't very good) my grandfather and his brother, (dropped out of college to enlist to fight nazis), my uncle (dropped out to fight Vietcong) all played at a collegiate level (Hawkeyes- yeah say what you will). I get the game - What I don't get is the rabid fervor. My boy is pretty damned good - made the coaches all star pick. But it's not all that he or any of the other kids playing the game are and he gets it. It doesn't define them. If a 17 year old kid gets it why can't adults? Why not let the kids and the coaches play the game - learn and teach teamwork and resilience? And why can't we all cheer all of them along the way? From what I understand the kids at highlands respect BW win or lose. Maybe their fathers can learn something from their children.

I am not sure what this has to do with the poor sportsmanship of not exchanging a game tape, but it makes me sad the kids don't care about winning or losing. I guess it goes back to the cultural change everyone has been talking about. The kids "get it", doesn't matter if they win or lose.

Highland faithful can say what they want but at the end of the day I feel they know that their coach is the wrong coach. Its just a matter of time.

Will Highlands go back to AAAA when it's time for district realignment again, or will they continue to want to play up in AAAAA?

We did the same thing when I worked at Beechwood only it was in the 80s.

 

We had a Secret Scout Weapon at Beechwood, his name was Mike Bowling. If I have a couple of more drinks tonight I might tell the story.

 

We had a coach doing that still in the 2000's era at HHS if I remember correctly. Good ol Coach Barr.

Does it really matter? AAAA and AAAAA are about the same there are a couple top dogs in each, other than the top its watered down.

I'm sure you and many others don't give a Rat's rear but when some of the Biggest Highlands Football names of past refuse to even go watch & support what's taking place it should be of concern. Brian Weinrich knows he has lost some support along the way. Does it matter what the old guys think? Nah! Does it show with the current situation? Yep! Yes, Coach Weinrich coached a State Championship his 1st year and then was a Semi Finalist the 2nd, but without Beau Hoge the 1st year, he doesn't Win State. Don't kid yourself if you don't agree. Other than a State Championship, Brian Weinrich has done nothing more than what Jack Eicher did in his short 4 years. Eicher use to own the modern era worse Highlands Football team until maybe last year. Sure the schedules aren't quite the same but the 1985 Highlands team who were still 6-4 would of waxed the 2016 & 2017 Birds. The difference then to now is 99% of the kids today don't really have the slightest clue what it means to play for Highlands. That my friends is Culture change.
