I REALLY hope Highlands wins

This could be a dynamite game.

 

Can Highlands stop South's potent running game? Birds giving up about 280 yards on the ground and South's averaging 290 per game....

 

Can South slow down Highlands' passing game? South's giving up just 60+ yards passing a game, but they haven't faced a passing team like this all year. Hard to know just how good the Dragons are against the pass.

 

If neither team can slow the other's strength, the game may hinge on the "other" parts of their offense. Can the Birds run effectively against South? Will Drew Zaubi, South's talented QB, be able to throw well against the Birds' secondary? Zaubi has only thrown for 935 yards this year, less than last year, but he's a three year starter who's thrown 16 TDs vs. only 2 picks and is getting some D1 looks.

 

Or maybe this all boils down to who makes the fewest mistakes, which might favor South. The Dragons have not been prone to many turnovers this year and have won the turnover battle in nine games and tied in turnovers in the other game.

 

Both teams are trying to prove something about their schedule. Highlands played a brutally difficult schedule - but was never able to pull the upset against the elite teams. Merely playing a tough schedule doesn't prove anything and the Bluebirds are still looking for that signature win in 2017. A win over South on the road would be a good validation of the Birds this season. South has the opposite schedule "problem"; the Dragons' started off with two quality opponents in CAL and Doss, but then saw their schedule difficulty drop considerably. Like last year, the Dragons go into the playoffs seeking some respect from folks who still claim they haven't beaten anybody of significance. Beating a traditional power like Highlands would likewise boost South's stature and confidence.

I can't believe it's the second round of the playoffs and we still don't know who the QB will be. :idunno:

It seems like a bad time to change anything in the offense. Do what you did well during the season. This is not the time to experiment. Just an opinion. I offered my opinion at the coffee shop this morning and I couldn't even get a refill.
