Best CovCath team Ever?

Featured Replies

I know this is too early because the season is not over and they do not have a state championship (yet?) Aside from an actual state championship, the question is: with a D1 QB, solid depth, good skill positions & lines and a dominate D thus far.......would this be the best team fielded by CovCath ever?

Simply put....if they do win 5A this year, is it their best team, if not who was?

Not saying the 87 team was better. But the 87 team defense was very, very good.

The 2006 team was pretty good but I would rank this squad up there, especially if they roll through the playoffs and win state. The energy and mindset of the team is unreal, you can just see what Eviston and his staff have created out there.

I really hate to harp on this but, gentlemen one game at a time, one win at a time and getting better after each practice and game. Dixie is the game this week, keep your heads and minds on this week's game as when you worry/think about the future, you lose all sight of the present.

This is not TOG's first rodeo!

I believe it is. I am of the opinion that before this year the 92 team was the best in school history even though they did not win state

If they win state.. with out a doubt.

1992

1987

2017

If they finish it out, then I say this year’s team is the best ever.

Heard that Coach Lynn Ray declared the 2017 Covington Catholic Colonels the best team in the 50 year history of Cov Cath football at the banquet this evening. I would say that ends the discussion.

So hard to compare teams from different eras. The offense of the 87 state champ team was stone aged compare to this years team.

The 87 team's defense was more physical then this year's team, but the game has changed and refs flag hits now that used to be a play on.

Hard to go wrong with picking the 2017 team though.

They were defintely the most Dominate team ever... I agree hard to compare teams from different era's, but I don't think it's arguable that they were so much better than anyone else in KY in 5A. With the exception of a Trinity team or two, or maybe a Highlands team (maybe), no High school team I can remember was as dominate... definitely no previous Covcath team. It was a fun year to watch!

With all due respect to the Riverboat Gambler, what else is he gonna say while he’s on the pulpit?

He’s an expert at playing to his audience, but I’d bet if you listened to a conversation on this topic between him and the esteemed Mrs. Coach Ray you’d hear a different response.

Now that the season is all said and done, it is hard to argue against the 2017 team as the best Cov Cath team ever.

If someone thinks another Cov Cath team is better, I would like to see them make the case for that team here. For starters, I say any team that didn't win a state championship is automatically out of the running.
