CovCaths schedule was not very tough.

I’ve talked to a few of the 88 team and we agree these past Colonels would beat them. 98’ was stacked on defense and had quite a few in the defensive backfield with Fowee, Pfeiffer etc.,and Wolfe killing running backs on every play.

2006 has Bleser throwing to Bovard and Sutton with Buckley and Brown in the back sharing carries����What a defense with Sam and company! Special group.

 

‘97 No. I was/am friends with a lot of them. They lost to a great 1A Beechwood, were spanked by Div I runner-up Moeller, and we’re close to getting blown out twice by Highlands before two huge second half rallies kept the first game close and put them in OT in the mud bowl. Position by position, I don’t see it. Kurt starts at OT. Applegate, Beecham, Pfeifer, and Timmy start for sure, probably Fowler as well. Madden and McGuinness is interesting. Madden was built more like McGuinness but ran more like Dyer did. That team lacked consistency in the passing game offensively, and ultimately that slight lack of balance would have hurt them. I take this year’s team but only bc Eddie is on the other sideline calling the O and would have established the run a bit more than Highlands did that season that ultimately cost them by giving the Colonels so many possessions in the 2nd half of both games

 

I never saw the ‘06 team, so I couldn’t form an opinion on that.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion, but CalPreps had CovCath playing the 12 most difficult schedule in the state of Kentucky and the hardest in 5A. Of note, their schedule was better than 22 6A schools...

Whether you think it was tough or not...and it was not easy, they pulverized every one from KY including Ryle (who pummeled SK), and Beechwood who would have went 5-5 in a 10 game series with SK.

I agree 100% that Eddie is the x factor...happy my son is playing for him. I would take this team over any, as I didn't say 97 could beat them nor 06...simply pointing out that those would be fun games.

 

I am pretty familiar with 97 team as I saw every snap that year. Like you, I am good friends with a lot of the 97 dudes. In all fairness to them, losing to Highlands would not be have been an indictment on them as Highlands had Lorenzen, Smith, Stegman, Gibson etc. Beechwood had in my opinion their best team ever that year. I don't think that the CCH 97 team is within 10 points of this CCH team.

Doolin and Kendall would have started on the oline as they were 3 year starters with Doolin going off to UC on a full ride. Madden was a senior who started on and off at RB for 3 years. Jeremy was a great player. On defense Applegate, Wolfe, Pfeiffer, and maybe Grout start for the 98 team over these guys. Maybe another guy or two could compete.

This team was better than any I was a part of or have watched, and having Eviston as the coach only makes them better.
