Is it time for another American flag?

And you can thank the POTUS for that. This whole ordeal is on him. He brought this to fruition by opening his mouth and attacking an entire league for the actions of a select few.

Stephen Curry gets some blame for stirring the pot with Trump, but I agree Trump caused what we saw yesterday. You just knew they would react that way.

I hate that players are protesting. Not because of them kneeling, I don't care about that. Heck, the fact the anthem is even played before a sporting event is dumb IMO, but that's a topic for another day. Not because they're protesting what they see as racial injustices, because I support their right to do so, and can't begin to understand what they've witnessed, seen, or been through.

I hate that the players are protesting because I've always loved that sports was a pure form of entertainment where we could get away from all the political nonsense. Unfortunately, that no longer exists and I hate that.

I'm not sure that sports have always been so pure and free of politics. There is a pretty long history of sports and politics being linked. Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali quickly come to mind. There are many examples in the Olympics as well...Jesse Owens, the 1972 Olympics, the 1980 Olympic boycott, the 1968 Olympics and Black Power. And politicians have often used sports as a platform to reach people...Presidential First pitches, White House visits for Champions, etc.

Alright then...I'll clarify...It's been free of politics on a week to week, game to game basis. Sure stuff pops up from time to time, but now it's every single week, every game.

I think the issue seems to be why is this the way they choose to protest? Let's get past whether they have a right to do it, because obviously they do assuming their team owner allows it (which all have). However, it is perceived by many to be a slap in the face to those who have fought and died for this country even though it is absolutely not intended to be that. That's very important because it's something that neither side of this issue seems to fully understand. One side is screaming it is completely disrespectful and the other side is screaming it's not disrespectful at all, and both sides are right because it all comes down to how you interpret it. So the question is wouldn't choosing another form of protest be more successful because it wouldn't be distracting from the point they're trying to make?

I agree, and myself and some others here have been asking the same question, but no one seems to be offering an acceptable alternative. Through all of this something hopefully will evolve that is acceptable, yet so far, though it has been unsettling to many, the "Silence speaks louder than words" approach indeed has for better or for worse, prompted discussion.

For the last 50 years racial equality has been a great idea on paper, but in many ways hasn't been served to its potential in reality. Obviously just the signing of the Civil Rights Act was not going to over night make things all better. What we're seeing now is a social push that says enough is enough, and that it's time that these ideals are taken seriously to the point that our culture once and for all make real efforts to make it better.

Immediately getting the entire country on the same page is merely impossible and never likely to happen, yet social sea change I believe can ultimately, however gradually, be accomplished.

Though setback after setback, in many ways over the years it already has been. While there are many still who seem content with unfair injustices, or fail to recognize and denounce them, there are way more folks in this country than ever before who accept and encourage the idea of a diverse multi-racial culture where "And Justice for All" is just second nature and expected.

It sucks to see the country in strife, and now it seems to be ever more so, but hopefully through it all a common agreed upon ideal of mutual respect and acceptance is where we will ultimately find ourselves. The tension might suggest and even more widening of divisiveness, and no doubt we are indeed seeing it, but hopefully that divisiveness doesn't win out, and that freedom, fairness, and justice does.

It's what we ALL deserve, and should STRIVE for, because this GREAT COUNTRY of OURS is WORTH IT.

The NFL are cowards in all this in my opinion. They wouldn't allow the Cowboys to wear a flag on their helmet in support of the police when officers were killed in Dallas but they'll allow players to kneel or sit during the anthem. They need to be consistent.

I think you meant wouldn't allow them instead of would.

Not I...I've always thought Tebow got a raw deal in the NFL.

Not me...I was always fine with Tebow, and never really got why anyone took issue with him.

Wearing the Flag on a Uniform is disrespecting the flag. (US Flag code Chapter:10-176D) " The Flag should never be used on wearing apparel, Bedding, or drapery."

They will when money starts talking, or maybe that is the issue, maybe money is talking.

Yep.

So it sounds like there were quite a few boos at the stadiums yesterday when players decided to kneel during the anthem....My question is, isn't booing during the anthem every bit as "disrespectful" as kneeling is?

Both are disrespectful IMO, but booing is far worse.

Very much agree.

That was my mistake, I said flag but it was a decal and not of the American Flag.

Wrong. Completely wrong. Folks getting worked up about the method and the way it's being done and what it shows disrespect for.
