Here is my takes-aways from the game.

 

Corbin is good. Solid on offense and defense. Definitely a contender in 3A. Only area that really needs work is on kickoffs. You cannot kick line-drives to the 30-35 yard line and let Beechwood return them to the 45-50. Those hidden yard losses kill you against good teams.

 

Beechwood.............well I said at the beginning of the year I would take Beechwood in 1A and let anyone else take the rest of the teams and that has not changed one bit. In fact, they are better than I thought. Can run it, can throw it. I can't fathom a 1A team that can stop this offense. Shame they are not in 2A or 3A because I fear 1A is not going to present many challenges.

The lefty qb for Corbin reminds me of a smaller J Lo.. The kid has a nice arm and runs hard. Actually the score should of been worst than it was.. Beechwood's defensive line is very good with the Baugh twins and Adam Derry.. Plus if there is a better defensive backfield in Ky I'd like to see it..

Correction - 3 field goals for Mescher, along with the TD reception and another long reception that set up another TD, plus other key receptions.

It was a very well played game. Both teams are as good as advertised. Corbin was much better throwing the ball than I expected. They also had more speed than I thought from when I watched them on film. They have backs that run very hard and they are well coached. QB Sizemore is a load running the ball and threw some very nice balls. Style wise, I think of Ben Roethlisberger. Big, big kid who is tough to bring down and extends plays then finds the open receiver.

 

Beechwood coaches had an excellent game plan. They have made some adjustments since the opener and tightened things up.

 

Beechwood QB Brayden Burch had an excellent game. He runs the Tigers offense like a pro. Very poised, good decision maker and on the money with a wide variety of throws.

 

Beechwood LB Robbie Cottingham was everywhere on defense. He had to have at least 15 tackles and made the big interception and return off a tipped pass in the fourth quarter that closed the door on the win for Beechwood.

 

Corbin had a couple key penalties and missed on a couple of opportunities. They like to spring trick plays on you. One worked for a TD on the 4th down pass in the first half. They had another one lined up to work on a halfback pass but the back went to one knee when he caught the pitch. If he had not gone down, it looked like he was going to have an open receiver to throw to.

 

It was a great high school football game played by two excellent teams. I fully expect Corbin to win the title in 3A. They are very good.

 

One side note: Corbin's helmets and uniforms were nice except the numbers were terrible. There was no way to tell who was who on their team. Maybe they want it that way. However, for visibility of seeing the numbers, they were the worst numbers on a jersey I have ever seen.

I talked to a Corbin parent and she said they all hate them too, but they have only had them for 2 years, cost too much. She said they didn't look like that when they ordered the.
