If there is a silver lining for Corbin, remember Belfry took a loss to Pikeville three years ago and still went on to win the State Title.

 

Corbin still has all their goals clearly in the picture, but this is definitely a "gut check" moment.

 

For Beechwood, this just concretes that the Tigers are the cream of the crop in 1A. Super impressive performance from their Offense and Special Teams.

I think we are beyond this. The top schools in 1A and 2A can play with almost anyone. That has been shown over the past couple weeks.

 

But to answer your question, I guess it says Beechwood would beat anyone in 3A.

Corbin really hurt themselves with all the penalties tonight. Burch got them three times on hard counts, unsportsmanlike conduct, pass interference, false starts. Beechwood was definitely the better team, but the Redhounds continually shot themsleves in the foot with stupid penalties.

 

Great game by Daniel Mescher! Those FGs proved to be huge obviously and he had 6-7 catches, including the TD.

Sorry about the update thread shutting down with Corbin driving after BW going up 36-21 with about 2+ left. This game was far from over. The Hounds scored quickly, but the game thread shut down and I could not continue as the game might have been more than Guru's blood pressure could handle. Corbin converted the PAT for two and closed to 36-29. Onside kick covered by BW, with Corbin still having 3 time outs. BW got 1 first down and then went into victory formation. Great win. Sorry, I have no stats.

Championship teams don't make the mistakes and commit the penalties that Corbin did tonight.

 

Corbin has a lot that needs to be cleaned up to be considered a true contender, but I imagine the coaching staff will have their full attention the next couple of weeks and will be working on getting it done. Coach Haddix scheduled these first 5 games so that weaknesses would be exposed before it's too late to do anything about them.

 

Beechwood was the more disciplined team tonight and also the better team.

Great win for Beechwood. I have to say I am surprised. It's Beechwood's to lose in 1A but I don't expect it.
