The Pirates coming off a hard fought loss to Huntington, WV, a team they had never faced before, in a game where their youth and inexperience was exposed, especially defensively.

They make the long road trip to play Bryan Station, another unfamiliar opponent, and another big school team.

Will the Pirates rebound and take care of the Defenders? Or will they still not be ready for prime time?

The last time Belfry lost back to back games it was the last two weeks of August.

But it was 16 years ago, in 2001 when Ashland and Lawrence Co got the best of them.

That's impressive.

Gimme the Pirates to right the ship (pun intended).

The thing about these 6A Fayette County schools is, they're never lacking in speed. Belfry's had great success in recent years against the likes of Tates Creek and Henry Clay, do in large part to Belfry's discipline and physical dominance in the trenches. Can they maintain that advantage this year despite breaking in an all new OL?

On a side note, these recent games against the teams mentioned above have mostly been at the CAM. This will be Belfry's first venture into Fayette County since 2011.

To me Bryan Station is Huntington-Lite

Not quite as big, not quite as talented, not quite as fast on D, not quite as good of execution, and not quite as deep as HHS.

I think Belfry bounces back but they give up some points.

I'll say Belfry 42-21

Belfry always schedules up and they like to play teams that will prepare them for things they will see in November and December. Most years, that means the very real possibility of taking loss or three. With the talent level and experience they have had over the past few years, especially on the line of scrimmage, those losses have been minimal.

This is a new year. They have a lot of talent, but not a ton of experience in the trenches. I expect they will hit some speed bumps along the way, but playing good competition will help them to improve in ways probably much more meaningful than in the past few years.

They outplayed my expectations for them this past Friday. They were able to do things on offense that I didn't expect, and they rushed for more than 430 yards against a pretty good football team. They also made some mistakes and got manhandled up front on the DL, especially late in the game. Those are things that the coaching staff will focus on, and they absolutely will improve.

I really like this type of year where you can watch a team develop and improve along the way. It makes the journey more interesting, and results more satisfying if you are blessed to have success in the post season. And nobody is better than Philip Haywood at looking at the big picture down the road, and doing the little things daily to help the team be where they need to be to peak at the right time.

I think Belfry wins handily against Bryan Station, something like 49-21.

Trying not to offend the Fayette County schools, but isn't Christian the only Fayette school of the entire 8 that has been consistently solid the first two weeks?

Belfry bounces back big, boys.

Lafayette... they lost but it was a respectable loss to a very good Scott County squad

My apologies to the Generals. You are definitely correct. They have been good.

The other six have had some less than stellar performances, though.

Belfry will have no problem in this game. Pirates by 4 touchdowns.

Belfry needs to play all four quarters and the line play, on both sides of the ball have to lead the way.
