Been hearing on the news that Boone county is getting rid of the rebel. Is this true? What will they be called now?

Here is a thread talking about this very issue.

DUMB!

Ridiculous!!!

Aren't we all rebels?

Instead of changing the name, just change the symbol from a Confederate soldier to Colin Kaepernick kneeling with an American Flag waving.

Or change the mascot to a continental soldier. Keep the same name.

They are just getting rid of Mr. Rebel, the mascot. Pretty sure the nickname remains Rebels.

Yes nothing to see here. I hear it will be a "B" with Rebels written down the side of the "B". Schools change the looks of mascots all the time. As usual, people trying to make something out of nothing.

This change has been in progress for over a year.

According to something I read, the Principal of the school said the Mascot didn't represent the student body well. He came to this conclusion as he was hanging up flags representing the 35 nations where Boone Co H.S. students originate (actually now at 40). So he concluded a confederate looking guy wasn't inclusive enough---at least that's how I understood the quotes in what I read. Yep, the new logo is just the letter B with the word Rebel written down the vertical post of the B.

I don't know what mascot will be used but it seems assured that Mr. Rebel has been retired.

Interesting read from unlv

This is spreading like wildfire, there is a petition going around to change the name of Paducah Tilghman high school as well....

Time to make all mascots animals! Colonels, Rebels, Generals, Raiders will soon be non existent!:lol::lol:

I'm guessing D.G. Bishop leading the team into the stadium on his white horse while carrying the Rebel flag wouldn't pass muster these days.

Pretty cool back in the day.
