Interior linemen. Rather it be offensive or defensive. If you can't control the trenches you can't control the game.

Totally offense specific plus what do you have to defend to win the big games.

If you have to beat running heavy teams then middle linebacker would be very important. If you have to beat a spread your safeties are vital. If its a pass heavy probably a rush end.

If you are a balanced team offensively with the intention of throwing more than 10 passes or running option the qb is #1 with RB #2.

Remember about 10 years ago or so Ryle had a kicker that could just boom the ball. They would try 60 yard field goals all the time because of the HS rule that on a kick once the ball crosses the goal line its dead ball, and ball is spotted on the 20 yard line. Great field position move.

 

 

Someone from Ryle confirm this but I think the kid eventually hit like a 54 yarder or something at one point.

 

I don't know about Ryle, but 10 years ago Shane Popham was going that at CovCath. We felt like we were going to score when we got inside the 50.

He was IMPRESSIVE to watch.

I'm a fan of the LB and kicker as well. However, their importance is secondary to QB and center!

 

From a coaching standpoint I've seen good teams overcome terrible coaching, as well as, bad coaches ruin good teams. Thumbs up to the good coaches out there that compliment their teams well and bring out their players best! :thumb:

MLB. I think it's without question.

I think, at this level, if there is a true standout on your team, he can change the game for you, regardless of position.

Not to mention, not even scoring but how important is it to put the kickoffs in the end zone, or inside the 20? Making a team march 80 yards on every drive is a game changer for sure.

 

I watched a middle school player from North Oldham kick multiple touchbacks (usually after he scored the TD) and then also kick onsides (fast enough to recover his own onsides kicks). The opposing team never knew where the ball was going. Same kid would run the ball as running back and score 3-4 TD per game and return kicks on punts and kick offs.

Most dominating all around football player I ever saw when I watched him play against Collins. He litterly recovered his own onside kick after 3 straight touchbacks and picked it up in full stride and ran 30 or so yards with it. Officials were shocked so they threw a flag after the play and figured it mist have been illegal but he grabbed the ball a good 12-15 yards downfield.

Same kid is headed to Louisville as their kicker next year.

I watched that kid play in MS and HS and saw another kicker at Shelby county kick too. Shelby county kid is headed to Georgetown and he was a better punter than the north Oldham player but couldn't kick the ball

Off or FG kick as well. He also didn't play another position other than kicker.

In HS a great place kicker is a huge difference. I'm still not sure that they are as important though as a middle linebacker who can cover run and pass plays or QB. I would put place kicker as 3rd or 4th most important spot for HS.
