This is an interesting topic and something that has eaten at me for the last several years. I find it interesting that some have mentioned a kicker as being the most important and have had coaches, former coaches and friends tell me the same thing. Their reasoning is that as long as the high school rules do not allow returns out of the endzone, it is a huge advantage to have a kicker that can consistently place balls in the endzone. Forces the opponent to drive 80 yards after most of your scores which means there is a much better chance that they will either turn the ball over on downs or via fumble/interception.

 

My issue is what if that placekicker is also someone that can help you on the field either offensively and/or defensively? Do you put a bigger emphasis on the kicking game and not play said kid at another position where he could help you win games?

I can tell you, when Aaron Pettrey played at Raceland he received big D1 offers as a kicker and small D1 offers as a QB. He obviously played QB and Kicker and was a very good WR his freshmen year. He was a very good high school QB and an excellent kicker at any level. Raceland won more games as a direct result of his kicking more so then his QB play. Not to say his QB skills didn't win games, but the kicking game was a true game changer. Opponents had to start all drives from their 20 and once Raceland crossed midfield they were in FG range. I enjoyed watching him play both positions, but I would have had no problem with him only kicking. It was that big of a deal.

Interior linemen. Rather it be offensive or defensive. If you can't control the trenches you can't control the game.

 

Absolutely agree here, the QB needs linemen that can actually give them the time to make the right decisions. A great DT will take 2 OL and free up LBs and DEs and that will kill an offense.

Head coach?

 

It is universally understood that the QB is by-in-large the most important player on a team (not always, I know). But after that, what would you say the next most important player is on a football field?

^ okay. I saw your post 39. You still didn't answer what the thread asked. You can't explain the gist of the thread in the title, not enough room. So most people explain what they are asking in the first post so as to keep the discussion on topic. By that standard, your answer did not address the issue the thread addressed.

My statisticians are very, very important to me.

In Hs it would be the RB. ( of course I'm partial to the position ). They keep the chains moving, a stud RB can keep your offense on the field and I've seen many in Hs take over games and demoralize opponents.

I have to go with the Center. Yes, I know I am bias, but I do believe the Center to be the most important. If you can't get he ball in the QBs hands, you can't run a play!
