March 23, 20179 yr ...because of the early exits in the tournament, that means the ACC was the best conference in football last season, right? Kings of College Football.
March 23, 20179 yr I always laugh at this debate, conference doesn't mean anything, BEST team is all that matters, and there will be one team left, and they may have not even been the best team this year. Be glad your school is in a competitive conference that prepares you and be happy. All of the best conference stuff is for TV/announcers to have something to say.
March 23, 20179 yr ...because of the early exits in the tournament, that means the ACC was the best conference in football last season, right? No. The ACC sucks at both and at life in general.
March 23, 20179 yr Anyone familiar with my history knows how silly I think it is to make blanket statements about conferences based upon bowl and tournament results. The ACC was great and probably the best conference. The ACC has not performed well in the tournament. Both of those statements can be true.
March 23, 20179 yr Are those "head to head" challenges (e.g., Big Ten - SEC ) that are conducted during the basketball season any more accurate? Not much...maybe a tad IMO. Of course, some teams improve and some don't as the season progresses. The worst measuring stick is football bowl games.
March 23, 20179 yr I think the ACC is the best conference in college basketball and will be pretty much every year for the foreseeable future. Just had a rough tournament.

I think people are just looking for something to make themselves feel better when their team gets bounced early. As long as you are in one of the 5-6 major conferences it has zero impact on your ability to win a national championship. Why people make a big deal about it is beyond me? Like you said though, it's all a media creation. Most of the hotbed stuff we argue on here is media generated not stuff that has happened on the court I.e. Lavar Ball.
March 24, 20179 yr Saying that in football a lot of the times how a conference does in bowl games is looked at how strong the conference really is. Which in football the bowl games are not as important because now unless you are one of the 4 teams in the playoffs a lot teams its not that big of deal that the conference is more important during the season. However in basketball the strength of a conference is and should be focused on during the tournament when teams play teams from other conferences.

However in basketball the strength of a conference is and should be focused on during the tournament when teams play teams from other conferences. I don't understand why though? There are so many other metrics to look at that are far more telling than conference affiliation. I just think that's a horrible way to differentiate two teams from power conferences.
March 24, 20179 yr I do have the ACC as the best conference in water polo. That has got to count for something.
