Nope. 8th. And never hear it from any small school fans in the region that I am around all season. Like I said I've never known it to come up in conversation. And a small school hasn't won the Region since 1972. On five occasions they made it to the finals.

I know some people from Indiana and they wish they never went to the class system. Remember the movie Hoosiers!

My cousin taught 35 years in Franklin County, Indiana. He also coached as an assistant in basketball and football. He's told me several times that when Indiana voted to go to class system in basketball that it destroyed their tournaments. They're now watered down and the attendance is not good at the events. He says many coaches in that state that he occasionally sees tell him they wished the IHSAA had never changed it from one class.

No we don't. The All-A is a private tournament run by its organizers and sponsors. The winner of the All-A is not the "State Champ". They are the "Champion of the All-A tournament" Big difference.

Would like to see what might happen if there was a public & private class. Know this issue has been beaten to death and clearly is NOT going to happen in KY. However, almost half of the teams listed above are private. Football appears (minus Bowling Green) to be dominated by private schools as well.

 

Have you checked the volleyball state champ list? All private. All big. Same 4 schools. Volleyball needs it more than Girls BB, which at least has a different winner every year.

Practice harder and get better as a team then you won't have to worry about getting blown out.

Perhaps basketball needs to be more like volleyball and allow private school kids to play for their high school basketball team in 7th and 8th grade, which essentially is what the volleyball girls do by virtue of an incredible club volleyball structure operated by those private school Volleyball coaches!

Just for the record, I never said I wanted classes. I just asked the question, if it was needed. I like only having 1 state champion, however I am not sure having half the games in the 1st round of regionals be blow outs is a good thing.

Of course doing so will eliminate half of your games, and potentially half of your gate as well. It also will make it near impossible for some teams, who already have a dominant team in their district, to make the regional tourney in the first place.

 

I'd be curious to the original stats that you posted, how many of the blowouts were by district winners, versus those done by a runner-up.

True, they are not at all. Problem is that the private schools, particularly the Louisville schools essentially start in 1st grade. It is like the old Soviet Union (okay, strong comparison) where kids are trained from 1st-8th grade at the private schools programs. I suppose we should be doing that in basketball, right?

Please for goodness sake move on from this classification bologna. It's terrible for basketball and it's not gonna happen. It seems every few months this becomes a topic and all it does is sound like sour grapes by people that are upset that their little Johnny or Suzy got crushed by the big bad wolf(large school).

I couldn't disagree more with the elimination of the district runner-up. That would water down the region tournaments. Every region has a district that is much stronger than the others. My home district is the 8th district (Christian County, Hopkinsville, University Heights, Fort Campbell). With your solution a top 10 team in the state would not make the region tournament on the boys side this year. The Bowling Green and Owensboro districts are other great examples. Most years the top 2-3 teams in the region are in those districts.

I don't know why people love to hate on the All A Classic. If it wasn't for it there would be classification in basketball. It takes a ton of pressure off the KHSAA because it gives small schools their recognition. Everyone should be thankful for it.

I actually like the All A, but it is not what is preventing classification as the KHSAA could care less about it. The reason there is no classification is because the Boys' Sweet 16 is the money maker and brings in over 65% of the total revenue for their fiscal year.
