People have been pointing out on Twitter that Richard Allen's name was initially brought up as being a possible/likely identity of the man shown walking in the video on the bridge on 4chan message boards as early as 2018.

Twitter has also snatched up this picture from the Facebook account belonging to Allen's wife. It shows Richard Allen sitting in a kitchen with a copy of one of the police composite sketches of the murder suspect behind him on the wall next to the bulletin board.

Man… If that’s actually him, he’ll definitely get the death penalty.

Do we know why he was a potential suspect as far back as 2018?

I was mistaken, Richard Allen was first mentioned on 4chan back in 2020, not in 2018.

I don't know that Richard Allen was or wasn't a potential suspect or person of interest for the police back at that point. But it would seem to me that if they were looking for a murderer in Delphi, IN who was male, and had a medium-to-stocky build, with Delphi, IN only having 3000 residents total, the police probably would have at least looked at him at some point or another. He may well have been on their radar from the get-go.

I know the police were recently searching in the Wabash River about 40 miles away from Delphi near Peru, IN in connection with this case; maybe they were able to come up with the evidence they needed to arrest and charge Allen while they were there. They also stated back in 2019 that they suspected that the murderer may have taken some souvenirs of the murders. As much as that inevitably makes your mind race to wonder what those potential souvenirs could have been, I guess it's possible that they could have come up with those items in/near the river in Peru? The Wabash River flows southwest, so Delphi is downstream from Peru...so logically, anything found near the river in Peru that had to do with the murder would have had to have been put there, and wouldn't have potentially 'washed up' there.

One of the things I saw one news outlet reporting on is the fact that there is a large poster-size print of the 2019 police composite photo (the one without the hat) that has hung on the outside of a building two doors down from the Delphi CVS where Allen went to work every day. He has lived in Delphi since 2006, and has been hanging out and apparently not blowing his cover throughout the entirety of the 5 years since the murders. That guy clearly has some cojones.

I listened to the episode of the "Down The Hill" podcast that dropped yesterday.  They stated the possibility that Allen could only be an accessory and would still be charged with murder.  Evidently there is no first, second, & third degree murder in Indiana.  So if he killed them or aided in the process, he would face the same charges.

There's some unfounded scuttlebutt that someone close to him had suspicions and reported him.  Some saying it was his wife.

I also saw a picture his wife posted of their daughter.  She was sitting on the tracks of the bridge.  She posted the photo on Facebook in 2018.

Might just be me, but I'd think if Allen was an accessory, he'd be in full cooperation mode in order to make a deal on charges. So the fact that he's not cooperation with police seems counter-intuitive to me.

Or maybe it's possible that the police are just saying that he's not cooperating in order to give the other suspects a false sense of security?

I agree.  The hosts weren't saying that's what they believe, just that it was a legal possibility.

Man arrested for killing teen girls 'blended right in' for years, Indiana community says (msn.com)

Just thought I'd add to the news on this with the USA Today article above from yesterday.

I have 2 daughters and just can't fathom the daily anguish these families have had and are currently dealing with.  I hope the case is finally solved and they can have some form of closure.

To perform or assist in these crimes, you are completely sick and should be put away.

If it is solved, this will make a fascinating documentary.

Thanks for keeping up with this.  I read this thread a year ago or so, but just yesterday stumbled across it again.

This thing just pulls me in.  I looked at another article (Fox59) (Updated yesterday) and it had some very interesting information:

- The probable cause affidavit for Allen’s arrest and subsequent charges is “temporarily sealed,” according to ISP and Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland. However, McCleland also said there will be a public hearing in the future to determine how soon the documents could be unsealed.

- Allen’s home was searched last week, with investigators digging up his firepit and towing a vehicle. They have not shared what evidence – if any – was found.  This is really interesting to me, as the investigators believe of the strong possibility Allen burned some potential evidence and also the potential for blood residue to be in his vehicle.

- It’s still unknown if he has any connection to Ron Logan, the owner of the property where Libby and Abby were found. The FBI carried out a warrant to search his land on March 17, 2017. According to the search warrant, Logan created a false alibi for his whereabouts the day of the murder and his cell phone pinged near where the girls’ bodies were found. He died of COVID-related complications in January and was never charged.

- Richard Allen’s next scheduled pre-trial hearing January 13. A jury trial is scheduled for March 20.

These are hard dates.  At this point in the investigation, after 5.5 years, you would be led to believe to charge someone with these girls murders they would have to have substantial evidence to do this.  It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

I wouldn't want to be Allen's attorney.

Agree with all of this.  But regarding your last sentence, I have seen a number of legal minds criticize the sealing of the Probable Cause Affidavit.

Why?  It happens all of the time during active investigations. The general public just isn't usually aware of it.

Lack of transparency is the reason I have seen.

Judge in Delphi murder case begs for help after sealing court documents (msn.com)

“Not only does the public not get to see important information, but we don’t even know if the case is under seal right now for the defense. He has a right to know what he’s accused of so he can mount a defense and preserve evidence to prove his innocence. You can’t do that if you don’t know what they’re accusing you of.”

Despite an arrest, the Carroll County prosecutor and Indiana State Police say they want case records to remain sealed to give them additional time to receive additional tips about the case.

I thought this article spoke to what Randy was speaking of in the quoted above entry.  I didn't understand that when he said it, but I have a better idea of it by reading this article.

I guess the November 22 hearing will be the next key date.
