Does the Northern Kentucky Boys Basketball Coaches Assoc. need to look in the mirror?

Featured Replies

A lot of people hate Covington Catholic, sorry. I am a fan of small town basketball. You go to the school that's in your city and represent them well. Not sell out. They are the Duke of Kentucky High School Basketball, and that's just the way it is.

Coaches often vote on the player they believe has the best talent that they see the most of.

See Mr. Kentucky Basketball 2003. Ross Neltner wins Mr. Kentucky Basketball but doesn't win the 9th Region Player of the Year. More of the state saw Neltner because of a lot of summer ball, so he gets the nod. However, the coaches who saw the two the most, thought Doellman was the better player and rewarded him as such. Heck, you could make an argument that Neltner was even the 3rd best in the 9th that year.

This is nothing new. Hard to vote for a player that you didn't really get to see play. There might be some type of vendetta with maybe one coach, who knows. But I personally wouldn't think this is some wide spread conspiracy against CJ Frederick.

Thread, meet Albuquerque. Albuquerque, thread.

There are some in the the field that are just as good if not better.

That's a very good argument. Personally, I think CJ is the best in the region and McNeil isn't far behind. I think those 2 are far away the best 2 in the region. That's just my opinion

How has CovCath sold out?

No their are not . We will see where they end up in college which is the clear measuring stick !

Everyone has their opinion and that is great! But, come on, far and away the best. You are probably the only one in NKY that has that opinion.

And you are delusional. That is not the clear measuring stick.

So what do these kids receive besides a plaque? Did the young man miss out on anything significant by being 8th instead of higher?

FYI, defensive player of the year gets a bigger plaque than those that make first team.

The kids that live out of district and choose to attend CCH are not sell outs. Folks that choose to dislike CCH - knock yourself out - I get it and I understand the Duke analogy. CCH fans, alums, players and boosters couldn't care less. Line up and play - best team wins. Very good chance that's Cooper this year. They are VERY talented, well coached and TOUGH. As a CCH fan, I hope the Colonels earn the right to advance and take on the best, whoever that may be.

Great post Samcro. I don't care for CCH, but I do RESPECT them for the program that they are building. May the best team win the region. Remember, you don't have to be the best team. You only have to be the best team for that one night.

Thats some funny stuff right there. However calling the kids sell outs is very immature IMO. I would think the majority of the players at Cov Cath would probably end up there even if they were not basketball players. If parents want their kid to go the private route, and the kid wants to, thats where many of them go. But, for anyone who does play ball and is good, why not go to Cov Cath? The exposure the program is getting you now is invaluable, from the college coaches coming in, to the experience of playing in the tourneys such as the one in NY/NJ, and is proving that it is able to help with getting your college paid for. Why not go play ball there if you are good enough. It is not for everyone. Look at the kids who play freshman, and some sophmore and then stop. If they went there solely for basketball, they would transfer right? How many do? Certainly not the majority.

One thing that I have come to learn in my old age is the feelings that I had towards schools such as Highlands and the football program. I think many people now have the same feeling towards the Cov Cath Basketball program. IMO Jealousy is a much better word to describe the feeling than Hatred.

And if one feels that way, so be it. You are the one feeling that way and it has zero effect on the ones in the program

Exactly right. Should be a lot of fun.

My "agenda" is leaders of young men that lack integrity shouldn't be in positions to influence, coach, or teach young men. And to think it is our tax dollars at work, it makes me sick to my stomach.

.

Guru are you calling out only certain coaches in D1 or all NKBBCA coaches? Any issue with the other classes and selections?

I like the quote at the beginning that says something about "the voters ability to judge talent". I will stand by what I have said before- 50% of the high school basketball coaches are not good coaches. They wouldn't know talent if it fell out of the sky and landed on them. This along with the politics is why this voting is useless.
