Petition Created Opposing 'Stallions' Mascot For Frederick Douglass High School

Featured Replies

I guess that leaves sires and dams out. Guess you could use "foals"? :lol2:

Maybe they just need to move away from the horse theme.

Freedom

Bears

.......

This would be a really good one, given the name of the school. Not sure about the mascot's attire, though.

And I've always liked those "non-plural" mascots. Green Wave, Crimson, Phoenix, ec.

For those of you that are complaining about the petition. Who do you think should have input on selecting a mascot for a new school?

How about Racers? Like Murray State.

As long as it is not mustangs.

McCracken and Muhlenberg both went with mustangs.

I have zero issues with the students selecting the mascot and IMO they should be the ones who choose it. I also have zero issues with the name being Stallions and and baffled by the petition.

I know they said the mascot will be horse themed but I hope the students write Harambe. The Frederick Douglas Harambes. That would make me so happy. :lol2:

What if the students choose Stallions? What then?

If the students choose Stallions then I guess that would be the name.

I can understand the petition. I wonder if anyone would complain had "Mares" been chosen?

I haven't kept up. Did female students actually complain?

You could go with a Revolutionary War Soldier mascot. That's kind of what my school did, and we were the Senators.

Better than togas.

Better than togas.

But the fight song would be great...

It's safer. I did not like the "stallions" name either.

I think the lady with the petition has a good point. A school's mascot should represent the entire student body, and this one doesn't.

I am not sure the students should decide but they should have input. What if the boys outnumber the girls and all decide it would be funny to name the mascot a stallion?

I think it should be their site base who should make the decision, taking in the opinions of the community, including the students.

Personally, I like thoroughbreds as it is representative of Lexington and gender neutral. It is not an earth shattering decision, but it is important. Lord knows we do not need any more Beavers or Trojans.

Bronies. Bronies. Bronies.

I have the perfect mascot...The Douglas A-sexual non-threatening Gelatinous Blobs. There you go, problem solved.
