Does your wife feel the same way? My husband and I have different memories of raising our daughter. Daddy's perfect baby girl went toe to toe with mama on a few occasions. Wouldn't trade it for the world though.

 

I bet that happens a lot BW fan but my wife agrees with me. I am NOT saying my daughters are perfect - they are not. However, they were very easy to raise...even the teenage years weren't bad at all...they had their moments but who doesn't? They are 26 and 25 now and have turned out to be fine young women, certainly better than me! My wife and I would like to take the credit but we both know we were incredibly blessed. I know others who are great parents and have kids with serious issues. Again, we were very blessed and I am very appreciative...

I spanked son twice that I can remember when he was young, both times for lying. Daughter hasn't been spanked by me, more than a swat on the butt. Wife has got her a couple of times, also when she was younger.

My mom would get started, and the more she spanked, the angrier she got. I could tell you hair raising incidents. I swore I would never, and the fact that I didn't is something I consider one of my biggest accomplishments in life.

 

I had a conversation with my mom several years ago about this very subject. All in all I was a good, pretty well mannered kid and didn't get in too much trouble, was pretty easy to raise as kids go and though I got my fair share of whippings for lying, doing stupid stuff, etc., they were relatively few and far between, over and done with. My sister, on the other hand, was the exact opposite. She was defiant and always in trouble and always being punished. Mom told me she came to a realization one day that she was getting much like you describe your mom...she found herself getting more angry as she was whipping and she found herself possibly having crossed the line one day with my sister. That's when she quit whipping her completely and tried other avenues (which really didn't work either, but at least my mom wasn't punishing her to the point of almost a "beating"). Some kids a whipping is exactly what they need...others it might not do any good at all and other approaches work great...and sometimes nothing works with some.

To confirm your fears, wait until you and little missy have discussions about when training bras need to be worn. It was at this point in my daughter's rearing that I told my wife "You raise her." I'm glad that 3 of my 4 were boys. We understood each other better. (I'm taking shots at my daughter but actually she wasn't much trouble at all.)
