Daughter, Wife and I were down at the lake one day. There were some baby ducks swimming around and we were watching them, suddenly a fish ate one of the ducklings. To this day my wife swears he just dove under for some food, she can't accept the circle of life happening right in front of her and to a baby duck of all things.

When I was 9, I saw a girl a year or so older than me get drilled by a car in busy traffic in Madison, Ind. She flew up in the air and landed in a crumpled pile on the ground, shaking a few times before she expired.

 

That was my first in-person exposure to death of a human being. I'll never get it out of my head the way she screamed in pain and horror less than 10 yards away from me.

I was behind a car that crossed the center line and hit another car at Christmas time where tow people died. It was terrible.

 

I had a gun held to my head in a work place domestic shooting with two people killed and another one shot. I have used up a couple of my nine lives.

I watched the space shuttle Challenger explode my junior year in highschool from our front yard in florida. We knew immediately that all aboard were dead as the debri started to fall back to earth. It was the first time I got to see a live launch.

Worked for the Cincinnati Stagehands at Riverfront Coliseum/Riverbend from '88-'91.......It is simply amazing what some women will do for a Back Stage/All Access Pass. :wideyed:

 

I had many offers for mine at all kinds of concerts, Whitesnake, AC/DC, Prince, Alabama, INXS, Van Halen just to name a few. I NEVER gave mine up, the job paid too much to lose. However, I saw some things that would make your head spin.

About 15 years ago I saw a young lady jump to her death off an old parking garage roof. I just happened to be sitting at light in work vehicle when I noticed something falling. I was only person who noticed I guess called 911 as running towards her body. She was dead no doubt...an image I don't think I will ever be able to erase from memory.

Along these same lines, I watched Columbia on live TV at an AAU tournament in Louisville.

 

There was an Adrian Peterson situation with one of my teammates and his father the same day.

When I was 19 and just starting my career at the University of Cincinnati, the computing center where I worked was located on a sub level of the Medical Science Bldg, which at the time before major reconstruction looked sorta like a prison.

 

I recognized the smell of formaldehyde down the dingy hallways that I daily walked to get to the center from dissecting frogs in high school biology, but really had no idea what was to be found behind the doorways of these basement level rooms until a co-worker thought that it would be funny to initiate me to the world of Gross Anatomy, and lead me into one of the rooms on a slow weekend work day.

 

I seriously had no suspicions about where he was leading me, and when he walked me naively into one of the many rooms what I saw freaked me out beyond words.

 

There were probably no less than 20 tables with each one of them with a human cadaver laying on them. I had never considered what happens to a body donated to science, but I instantly found out.

 

Bodies could be found in many of the rooms all up and down this hallway on the floor of this building. It was the Gross Anatomy department so it would stand to reason, but before this I had never even heard the term Gross Anatomy.

 

What perplexed me other than what I was seeing was how there were no locks on the doors to these rooms. Anyone could walk off the street into this building and into one of these rooms. That didn't seem right to me. Over the years the building itself beefed up its security, but as far as I know not much had ever changed regarding these rooms. I'm assuming that by now perhaps they have.

 

Driving home that day and seeing people walking the streets had me looking at them differently than I ever had. I couldn't help but to ponder too deeply that they would all eventually die. I was able to eventually get over that thought and thankfully so because that's a pretty nutty thing to think about too deeply just by watching people walk down the street, but the effect that it had on me that day creeped my out something fierce.

About 15 years ago, I think, at the Summer Sanitarium tour at Kentucky Speedway I saw a couple of women who really enjoyed each others company right on the asphalt near the start finish line in front of thousands.

Not necessarily the craziest, but the most recent to fit the bill. This fall I was just about to go for a run on a track. The entrance was right by one end of the track with probably a 5 foot concrete wall with woods behind it. The sun went away and I felt a shadow coming over me. All of a sudden, directly over my shoulder this gigantic hawk(?) was diving toward the wall. I was less than 6 feet away from the wall and this thing couldn't have been more than 2 feet above me. I saw it's talons out in the kill position clear as day.

 

There was a struggle at the foot of the woods and somehow the rabbit he was after got away. It took a suicide leap off the wall and broke at least one of its legs. It sprinted as fast as it could under a bush probably 25 feet away.

 

The hawk flew over and got on the other side of the bush. I swear I didn't know they were smart enough, but the rabbit used the trunk of the bush for defense and when he took a step to one side the bird went in the other. When he thought he had a move the rabbit sprinted away in a zigzag fashion. He ran so fast that he ran strait into a chainlink fence and flew backwards. The hawk pounced on his prey and that was the end of the rabbit's life.

 

I decided I pressed my luck enough and decided to do sprints on the other side of the track, but the whole time I was there the bird just hung out in the same spot perched right next to its kill. I couldn't believe how close I was and how clearly I could see everything. I felt like I was watching real life Animal Planet.

I swear, I'm sitting here thinking about all the dead bodies and people dying. I really don't think I'll forget any of their faces.
